here's a portion of what a fairly prominent Republican had to say about this McCarthy fiasco:
GINGRICH: I think it's a very sad day because I think Kevin McCarthy is one of the most talented leaders I've ever worked with. I think that he accomplished an amazing amount for having a small majority and having to take on both the Senate and the White House. I think this is really a tragic outcome.
This was a leader who both gained seats in 2020, gained seats in 2022, increased the number of women members, increased the number of veterans, increased the number of minority members, and he had a vision for a better future.
Let's be clear here, if the University of Georgia Bulldogs were the number one team in the country right now, if you started a game and four of the members of the offensive squad decided they were actually on the Alabama side and began tackling your own people, you would probably get them off the field. Think about what we saw today? 4 percent, 4 percent decided they were so morally superior, so intellectually pure, so patriotically better, that they would side with the Democrats and that's what they did, in order to defeat the entire Republican house caucus. 96 percent of the Republicans voted for McCarthy, 4 percent voted against him.
For my position as a longtime Republican activist, they are traitors, all eight of them should be primaried, they should all be driven out of public life. What they did was to go to the other team to cause total chaos. We've got to be focusing on Biden, we ought to be focusing on the economy, we ought to be focusing on the border. Instead, you're going to get a week or ten days of the media focusing on Republican disarray rate. It's an astonishing destructive behavior by a handful of egocentric people who think they are superior to 96 percent of the conference.

I think the reason was because mccarthy gave credit to republicans for stopping the shut down and not the democrats. I may be wrong.

Skans - Kevin McCarthy made promises to Gaetz and other Conservative Republicans to become Speaker of the House in a pretty contentious series of negotiations. While, this will be a temporary disaster for House Republicans, the ouster needed to be done. McCarthy walked all over the Conservative wing of the party, reneging on promises he made. If Gaetz did not oust McCarthy, then the Conservatives would have been completely neutered. So, Gaetz inflicted some real pain upon **** who don't honor the promises they make to gain power. And, that's the way it should be.

I am no fan of Newt by a long shot. I just find it amazing that eight renegades from the GOP's fringe can hold their entire party hostage, and, by default, hold the entire nation hostage.
It's almost like we've gone through the looking glass. There was a time when Henry Clay was lionized in American history as the Great Compromiser. This week, eight loonies succeeded in the first-ever deposing of a sitting Speaker of the House and they did so because he had the absolute temerity to do what??? to actually reach across the aisle and get something done in a bipartisan way for the good of the entire country. The horror!!!
And Trump sits on the sidelines looking like the cat that swallowed the canary.
