I object to turning away anyone seeking asylum.  If someone does not have a legitimate need for asylum, they should wait their turn to gain legal immigration status.

You just took a **** on your own argument. Before you said you advocate for America to be the strong arm in foreign policy to ascertain foreign threats. Unvetted immigrants flooding over our border is a threat. Then you say this ^^^.

I would also challenge you, @Vegas , to join me in calling for the imprisonment of any corporation CEO whose business is found to be knowingly employing illegal immigrants.  I KNOW that if we could stop the insatiable demand from the American business sector for cheap labor from south of our border, the flow of non-asylum-seeking immigrants would dry up.  Most non-asylum-seeking immigrants are not coming north for our culture, or our weather or our healthcare or our social safety net.  They are coming solely because they can make more money in two months picking fruit/building houses/mowing laws/repairing roofs/slaughtering chickens/etc. than they can in a year in their homeland.  As long as that labor demand and that financial incentive remain undimmed, all a 40-foot wall will do is create a market for 45-foot ladders in northern Mexico.

how's that?  Illegal immigration didn't not magically start in January 2021.

you twist my words.  I said that I advocated for the Department of Defense to be the strong arm in implementing America's foreign policy.  I have never advocated simply opening the border and letting anyone and everyone come across.  I have never advocated for stopping the required application/vetting process.  I see that as the responsibility of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and not the U.S. Military.  Wouldn't you agree?

If you ever beat me in an argument, you'll be the first one I tell about it.  I am not deflecting.  I am saying that it has been a chronic problem for a long long time spanning MANY presidential administrations.  As long as the root cause remains:  American industry's insatiable demand for cheap labor to maximize their profits, it will remain regardless of who is in the oval office.  And until the CEO's of McCain, and Perdue, and Tyson's and Cargill are all wearing orange jump suits, it won't even begin to stop.  There is only ONE CEO of McCain's, and putting him behind bars will stop the flow of THOUSANDS of illegal immigrants.  All for the cost of one orange jump suit.

In the short term, it will cause illegal immigration to significantly reduce

In the slightly longer term, it will jumpstart Congress to enact meaningful immigration reform and to fully fund and staff the INS to be able to effectively and efficiently process immigration applications in a timely fashion.

I understand that economics is exactly what is driving the bulk of illegal immigrants to come to this country.  American business wants them to come.  I just moved into a condo and, true to form, my wife immediately wanted to make improvements to it.  We hired a small general contractor to turn our outdoor deck into a four season sun room.  The crew he has working all speak Spanish and very little English.  I asked him why, and he said he could not find qualified people in Maine who wanted to work construction for the wages he could afford to pay them.  How many white Anglo-Saxon college students in California do you think take summer jobs in the valley picking fruits and vegetables in the hot sun?
