I have never contradicted myself. As I have stated, the military assets of the Department of Defense can be used for Offensive or Defensive actions. The former is most often done in furtherance of a diplomatic initiative, the latter in response to threats or actions taken against us.
No threat can ever completely be eliminated. I have no desire to close our borders. We have always been a country of immigrants and I refuse to support the cessation of that.

We can be a nation of immigrants with a closed border. People are just now forced to come in the legal way. What is wrong with that?

Like I said to Skans and Mainman who also said this copout, if we didn't involve ourselves into conflicts that has nothing to do with our national security, then we wouldn't need to worry about spending trillions on minimizing collateral damage in the first place. Intentional or not, the end result of civilians is the same..death and fear. Your view would stand if we were involved in a conflict that was in the name of our own defense. But we aren't. Therefore, the civilian death toll, be it intentional or not, makes our actions equally barbaric.
