What a bunch of gobbly gook. Grand Illusion of Wealth. Stop smoking dope and listening to old '70's glam rock. Here's the deal - you either have the means to get **** you want (wealthy)...........................................or don't (not wealthy).Fuelman » 17 Nov 2023, 10:45 am » wrote: ↑ If you really look at the numbers here in the U.S., there is a grand illusion of wealth. Median net worth in the U.S., $200k. Yup, Americans are just killing it!Skans » 17 Nov 2023, 11:38 am » wrote: ↑ What a bunch of gobbly gook. Grand Illusion of Wealth. If you have a net worth of 200k, at least you are not in the hole. 200K can buy you about 10 years of getting by.Fuelman » 17 Nov 2023, 12:11 pm » wrote: ↑ Some? Care to put an actual number to that?
I once thought the same as you.
next housing crash will erase that.Skans » 17 Nov 2023, 1:18 pm » wrote: ↑ If you have a net worth of 200k, at least you are not in the hole. 200K can buy you about 10 years of getting by.
Well yes, something is better than nothing. A net worth of $200k is more than likely spread out over multiple assets, not always easy to convert to cash. Ten years is a stretch and hope like hell life doesn't bite you in the ***.Skans » 17 Nov 2023, 1:18 pm » wrote: ↑ If you have a net worth of 200k, at least you are not in the hole. 200K can buy you about 10 years of getting by.
Social Security was never meant to be a pension. It's a "bump" - something that might help you buy food and pills, that's all.Fuelman » 17 Nov 2023, 3:19 pm » wrote: ↑ Well yes, something is better than nothing. IF people were as rich as some believe across the board, social security checks would be much larger but they are pretty darn small. The average at 62 is $1250/mo., average at 70 is $1970/ mo.. I have never seen a median number to go along with the average on SS.
It may look different from your point of view point but I see 80% of households are not in a very good financial position.
Very true but it's becoming the only source of income for an ever larger percentage of the senior population.Skans » 17 Nov 2023, 3:27 pm » wrote: ↑ Social Security was never meant to be a pension. It's a "bump" - something that might help you buy food and pills, that's all.
