I said tell ya what, young lady. Look at this car. It's a piece of ****. I'm getting ready to LITERALLY give it away to a new driver who needs a car. It has ZERO cosmetic value - it's only good for transport. So we don't need to involve insurance. But ya gotta listen to a brief lecture.
Hell, she was in college. Listening to lectures was her stock in trade.
I told her, half of all wrecks occur in reverse, but less than one tenth of one percent of driving occurs in reverse. Mile for mile. this makes you are about 50,000 times more likely to wreck in reverse. So I recommend that you drive in such a way as to NEVER need to use reverse gear, and on those occasions where it cannot be avoided, you pay attention like hair-on-fire, and you keep your time in reverse as short as humanly possible. The minute you can crank those wheels into position in a forward gear, get the HELL out of reverse where the wrecks happen.
I have no idea what the lecture profited the kid, but we can only do our best for the next generation and the rest is up to them.

Late 2016 I was delivering parcels for the USPS in my brand new VW Golf...I pulled into a 100' single driveway that expanded to a double around an oak tree. I delivered and was backing out. I had an unsettled feeling when BOOM!!! 3 mirrors and an under the hatch badge backup camera couldn't save me... I was sick...to my relief I just scuffed the bumper but the sound made me believe the airbags failed...
and to top it off, later that day I was pulled over as they received a call about a suspicious bright red vehicle stopping at homes walking up to their doors with packages and leaving empty handed...
