About 20 years ago Budweiser wanted to show the public that they were capable of making world class, limited batch lagers. They called it the Budweiser Brewmasters Challenge"
I think they had 3 or 4 breweries submit their best entries that were supposed to be based on the original family recipes from way back when. The best entries were put into a 12 pack and found shelf space at many supermarkets.
Boy those were good. Not rocket science....just more ingredients and less water.
Similar to what Sam Adams lager is like today.
Through the years BUDMILLERCOORS learned that beer with less flavor sold better to the average consumer and of course was more profitable.
They can also reuse the ingredients from a first batch of Bud...add some more malt and then do another batch for one of their sub-prime labels.

Target is a special kind of **** retailer. I never go there. I find it disturbing that Target appropriated the target symbol from my gun-culture. More of an IPA fan myself but if a Lager is done right, it can be amazing. Had one in Minneapolis at Wabasha Brewing that was amazing. Will admit that Southern Germany (Bavaria), Czech Republic, and Austria would be a dream trip. All the amazing beer.. liver would take a beating but it would be worth it.

I go to Target on occasion. It is more about location than anything else. It is a 1 minute drive to the nearest Target. Marketing does not work on me.. I am usually man on a mission. I know what I want, get it, and get out and do not care what else is on the shelves.
