People you don't know get to spend your money!
Kind of a sad story really. Mom's first Cousin couldn't have kids so they adopted a young boy. Fast forward to 2021 and the Cousin and husband both die that year. The adopted son moves into their house with some of his unsavory friends and trash the house. Less than a year later the adopted Son dies from a drug overdose in his early 50's. His friends promptly steal anything and everything out of the house and damage it even more. Luckily there were assets the assholes couldn't get a hold of. It cost a little over $100k to put everything back in order. It took a little over a year for this estate to grind through probate court in Washington State.
If you haven't done it yet, it's time to put your end of life wishes down on paper.

Only baby-daddies and men who have bunches of x-wives need to worry about having a will. In a normal family, you don't need a will. Married couples should just own everything together and then have their kids named as beneficiaries. no problem in the state of Washington. everything automatically goes to surviving spouse. for me. no one worthy of a penny. all assholes. best to do something to cause grief for people. help me. what would be the best way to cause misery for those who think they will inherit my money?

Have a will drawn up that leaves them out. My father had his will re-drawn after his daughter (supposedly my half sister by my father and her half sister by their mother and a different father) had their mother taken out of the hospital and declared mentally incompetent and put her in a nursing home 100 miles away and had an injunction against my 88 year old father (now 94) so he could not see her, so he wrote my half sister out. It was all about the mother's money which she inherited as an only child. The funny part is the greedy daughters could not qualify their mother for medicaid because of all the money she had and had to spend most of her money on nursing home, medical care and legal fees for 3 1/2 years before she died.
I asked the lawyer that drew up my fathers will if I needed a will. He asked me if I had any children (I have 2, a son and a daughter) and if they were my natural children (my wife died 13 years ago and I will never remarry). He said if I wanted my estate divided equally among them that I did not need a will and that would also avoid probate.
My father's situation was complicated and mine is simple.
Moral of the story---It is best to talk to an attorney.

What are the probate limits in Washington state?Legally, you will need a probate (either an adjudication or a traditional probate) if Decedent's probate assets include: A net value of over $100,000 of personal property, or. Any real property that you choose not to or cannot Administer by Affidavit.
the answer to the title of this thread, doesn't matter one is still dead. the vultures will fight over what is left, will or no will. Every will can be contested in a court of law getting its fair share from the squabble.

Not if they are dicks and think they deserve more. Our mother died in 2001. She made me executor of her small estate. My sister and her greedy **** husband accused me of stealing most of the money as she also handled her 94 year old mother's considerable amount of money. Going through my mothers bank statements I found copies of cashier's checks where she had given her younger sister and her husband ALL of their mother's money in an effort to take care of their mom to keep her out of a nursing home. After my mother died, they put her in a nursing home anyway and spent the money. When my grandmother died 6 months later my mother's oldest brother accused me of stealing all the money. To this day they all think I stole my mother's and grandmother's money. Yep, when it comes to a little money some people go **** nuts and do not deserve anything. THAT is why our father cut her out of his will.
That's all good and well (bad and not well, actually), but tell me this one thing - how would a will have made any difference at all?
