Was informed by a state dept expert on Saudi Arabia and ME relations during a lecture on the subject several years ago. He spent many years on and off in Saudi Arabia. This is a fact and very common in the public square there. Men only are allowed to do this. Well, I haven't seen any first hand OR second hand evidence of this butt fountain business. What I know about arabs is that their hygiene is a major issue to them. My understanding is that before they venture downtown, they go ahead and wash their butts at home - obviating the need for the public butt fountain (***uming such exists). I tried googling it - couldn't find anything except a wiki article on muslim butt-wiping. I didn't read it because I already know how muslims clean their butts - and unless you have a bidet attachment on your toilet, or some very specific rituals, they have cleaner butts than westerners. Oh I know they are cleanly…Saudi Naval officers used to always wash their feet up on the long sink counter in the men’s room. They were ignorant about if though, they always left water all over the counter and the floor for the Americans to clean up.
