It is always a good idea to do reasonable due-diligence on your sources, to get an idea how credible they are. Whenever you find that your source is a think tank, understand one thing: THINK TANKS ARE PAID FOR ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY - NARRATIVES. And the narratives they produce look very, very much like the people buying the narratives want them to look. One could even say that the conclusions come first, and then the evidence is fitted to those conclusions.  

You might also notice that your think tank admits that most of the worst persecution of Christians occurs in countries that are allied with the US or that have been **** up by the US. To quote your source directly, "Under dictators, these countries were significantly safer for religious minorities." YOUR GOVERNMENT is deliberately and knowingly making life unsafe for Christians. Wherever their footpint is greatest, so is Christian prosecution. It is especially bad in the failed states your government creates.

You might also remember the terror bombing of Christian Serbia under Bubba Clinton, PURPORTEDLY to rescue muslims in bosnia. The truth is, the U.S. government has been a major source of anti-Christian terror for the past 30 years.

If you are looking for persecution of Christians, look to first causes. The US government is directly manipulating events in primarily muslim countries to lead to this persecution. It more often than not provides the arms that are used against Christians - generally on the public dime. So I suggest you blame your government FIRST and islam NEXT - IF you genuinely care and are not just looking to bash muslims for the sake of bashing muslims. 

I get that it's fun, safe, and easy to raise the alarm against muslims. I'm no adherent of their faith - though I do not despise it or spread mass panic, disinformation, exaggerations and superstitions about it. All I do is roll my eyes at it. But the deeper you look into world events, the more you realize that muslims are at effect - not at cause. Even the very worst of them are manipulated and retarded dupes doing the work of people they despise but are unaware they are being manipulated by.

Blaming muslims for Christians' woes is like blaming a gun for a murder. You oughta look first to the fellow who pulled the trigger. And you oughta do a LITTLE BIT of a deep dive on the gatestone institute and who is behind it - since you are relying on their narrative as a source of information. It took me FAR less time to get the dope on your source than it did to explain it to you. I googled it, FFS.

They haven't said anything one way or the other on my plans to introduce the far less violent sport of cow fighting.

They are paid dozens of millions per year. Do you know what they produce for that money?

Narratives. They are not paid for looking after puppies, fixing cars, or having pretty eyes. They are paid exclusively for producing narratives to order. They "find" and "report" what they are paid to find and report - nothing more, nothing less, ever. 
 
Now, I will grant this much: They're more consistent in resisting big government than in sponsoring it. HOWEVER - just so ya know, your link to CATO's article relies entirely on Open Doors USA's annual report - and THAT report is paid for by the U.S. State Department. So... anti-big-government CATO'S commentary that you quoted relies entirely on a big government sponsored report. 

Not saying the report is necessarily false. But given its provenance, I CERTAINLY do not believe it is TRUE. The people who paid for the report would certainly have seen to it that no evidence of THEIR bad behavior or ISRAEL'S bad behavior made it into the final proof - which means if it isn't FAKE news, it is sure as **** not FULL news.

And AGAIN, all of this information was readily available with a couple of simple google searches. You really want to vet your sources.
