Educational institutions make very easy targets, but the truth remains that to even consider APPLYING to an elite institution, you need top 1-2% SAT scores.

I went to one of the schools your influencers love to bitch about...in our competitive set at the time, our percentage of minorities was among the highest.

All were smarter than Donald Trump. One that I knew became one of the best trauma surgeons in the country.

Some are...but it isn't anything like what you think.

I'm boarding a dog for a young couple. He went to the same high school as my grandfather, was the salutatorian of his class and a standout defensive lineman. The first kid in his family to even think about college.

He was waitlisted.

It is still a highly competitive set.

I am not saying that all Blacks that get admitted to Harvard are academic slouches. Far from it.  But, Harvard's undergraduate curriculum is watered down from what it once was. 
Here are some of Harvard's watered down areas of study, I submit some of which were specifically invented for the batch of Blacks they chose to admit:

• African and African American Studies
• Anthropology
• Art, Film and Visual Studies
• Classics (could have a smidge of rigor to it)
• Comparative Literature
• Comparative Study of Religion
• Earth and Planetary Sciences
• East Asian Studies
• Environmental Science and Public Policy
• Environmental Studies
• Folklore and Mythology
• Germanic Languages and Literature
• Government
• History (manufactured difficulty)
• History and Literature (Book Reading and discussion)
• History and Science (non-science for dummies)
• History of Art and Architecture
• Linguistics
• Literature
• Music
• Philosophy (again, manufactured difficulty)
• Psychology ("The Brain" for Dummies who can't do Neuroscience)
• Sociology / Societal Studies
• South Asian Studies
• Theater and Dance
• Women Gender and Sexuality (LMFAO  )

Granted, Harvard does have a Business school, programs in physics, mathematics, biological sciences, engineering and chemistry.  However the number of "fluff majors" now far outnumbers rigorous disciplines.  Disciplines which many Harvard undergrads simply cannot pursue for their lack the intellect.

Harvard has a "core requirement"...

If your ambition is to become a lawyer, or go to Wall Street, unless you wanna spend your time in a cubicle there's a "Culture&Literacy" bar....knowing something about something interesting makes you desireable company....just as being a competitive golfer makes you a great candidate for a sales job.

I once got an interview EXACTLY because I was a 19th cent. Russian studies major....the honcho who called me had been a 19th Cent Polish studies major. I had read his favorite author...but he was looking to move the hire in a direction I didn't want to go.

I agree that having some level of higher education in culture and literature is important. In undergrad, I opted to take most electives in literature, philosophy, history, logic, etc., instead of taking the "easy A" courses.  I have pushed my kids to do the same. You can either go for a "perfect score" or genuine education.  I opted for the later. What I got out of these "other classes" was I learned to write well. 

My kid happens to be a natural writer with real potential there, so I encouraged electives in creative writing, etc.  This will be a skill, a real benefit, no matter what the career or endeavor. However, when it comes to choosing a major, I am a firm believer that the major must be one that can get the kid employed.  I ain't paying for a degree in Sociology!!!

A classmate of mine took all pre-med requirements, but declared as a Classics Major to honor his father and heritage.

He was rejected at 33 of 33 medical schools.

He took a year off, worked in a lab, and reapplied.

Was admitted to one.

He was called into a dean's office for a talk about his "future at the school" given a couple of "incidents"....at the conclusion he was declared in good standing....with his promise to tutor the Dean in Greek.

He went back to his med school to teach, where someone endowed a chair for him. He was awarded its distinguished alumnus prize, and recently retired from the Mayo as the country's highest paid academic neurologist.

It's always what you do with it.

If one of my kids was to be awarded a full scholarship to Harvard.. I would leave the choice up to them. It is all expenses paid and that is not something I would pass up. No student loans and no having to struggle along and possibly only go to school part time (like myself). I would trust that my kids are able to separate the wheat from the chaff (so to speak). My parents were not on board with my decision to seek a degree. They wanted me to go into stucco/concrete/drywall and go work for the uncle. I saw everyone having back and knee problems by their mid-30's and then having few options after that.

Is one of your kids a mulatto transgender lesbian? If not, there'll be no such offer forthcoming.
