What I THINK they thought would happen is that the entire world would turn against the american-israeli war machine and its dirty deeds in the middle east. I suspect they realized that the enormous loss of life we have inflicted on country after country after country created an opening for a big **** you to that power.
And if that IS what they thought, it appears they were right. Divestiture from the dollar is heating up, and before you know it, we will be in no position to keep trying to force perversions on Russia.
