At 10, he tortured and killed another 10 yr old. He was released in 2001, then 9 years later he was arrested again for child porn on his computer. He was released in 2013, then arrested again for the same offense. He has been denied parole as of recent. 

The kid was raised in an incarcerated environment during the most developing years of a person's life. You don't come back from that. Prison raised him, not his parents. This guy doesn't stand a chance at being a functioning member in society.

This is an interesting case. What should society do with a 10 year old who tortures and kills another kid (actually a 2 year old child)?  I submit that the only humane thing to do is swiftly euthanize the 10 year old murderer.  Incarcerating him for the rest of his life is not humane.  That's torture.

Here's another interesting case, in the same vein as the one you mentioned, but with a very different outcome.  It really is worth considering in this discussion.

The Case of Mary Bell.   Mary Bell, a/k/a the Tyneside Strangler, murdered two preschool-age boys. She was, I believe 11 years old at the time.  The emotionless Mary puzzled the media, as she seemed to show no remorse for her crimes. Bell didn’t fit any murderer’s profile, but the manner of the killings made her seem like a skilled assassin.

In both cases, she convinced the boys that she could ease their sore throats by massaging their necks. She then proceeded to strangle the boys to death. Mary Bell served 11 years for manslaughter and was released in May 1980. 

But, here's the real kicker (this was in the UK), authorities granted the then-23-year-old anonymity upon her release.  This allowed her to settle at a place of her choosing without media interference.

In May 1984, Bell gave birth to her first and only child, a daughter whose name has never been released. The daughter grew up unaware of her mother’s crimes until 1998 when Bell collaborated with author Gita Sereny to author a book about her case titled Cries Unheard. (Yeah, she made money on her crimes!)

The book’s release gave reporters added impetus to track down Mary. They found Mary, her daughter, and her then-boyfriend in a south coast resort where they’d lived for 18 months.  She had been living  under the protection of the ‘Mary Bell Order,’ which protected her identity, but determined investigators still managed to track her down. 

Despite the constant pestering from the media, Mary had managed to hide her past from her daughter. However, in 1998, the truth came out: The book plus the media attention it brought made keeping the crimes a secret nearly impossible. 

Eventually, the media attention waned, allowing Mary and her daughter to settle in a new location with new names. In 2002, Mary and her daughter moved to court seeking a life-long anonymity order.

That is interesting. The main difference is that the kid here in the US was publicly registered . This means people had a right to know where he lived. He was granted no protection from the public or the media. The girl in the UK was.

Yes, the laws are very different.  The kid in the US was never really given a chance.  But, Mary Bell murdered twice.  Strangled little kids with her bare hands, enjoyed it, and had no remorse.  Yet, after she did her time (which was way to short IMHO), she was given anonymity and never murdered again.  Or, at least as far as anyone knows, she hasn't murdered again.  

I don't feel like Mary Bell got "justice".  On the other hand, she wasn't a life-long burden of the State either.  While I find myself loathing her, I am equally perplexed.  I have to admit, I don't know what is right in these child-murderer cases.

That is something I don't know.  There are very few details about her life after she got released.  She did have a child and apparently has at least one grandchild. Mary Bell was born in 1957 to a teenage sex worker, Betty McCrickett in Scotswood England. She had been exposed to her mother’s sexual acts and was “pimped out” by the age of ten.  Mary Bell never pled guilty to her childhood crimes but is said to be a completely different person now. Cases like Mary Bell and the kid you mention in your OP truly perplex me.  As I delve deeper into each of these types of murder-cases, I can feel my brain slosh back and forth, being completely unable to resolve what is the right thing to do with them.  The easy thing is to swiftly kill them and be done with them. I believe that would be just, and I couldn't declare fault with that.  But, I don't know if that's the right thing.

The trouble with sanctioning that (capital punishment) is it sets a precedent and either becomes ignored (under-used) or over-used. Our system tends to lump events together. 

Will an innocent person be executed and found out only when it's too late?
Also, needing to show remorse is over-rated. It can be faked. And a resting bitch face isn't always guilty.

All that said, when proven beyond any doubt, cutting a **** weirdo like that loose from their mortal coils isn't wrong.

Kids are sociopathic. They lack empathy. Some never mature but all kids are **** evil. When undisciplined, all the worse.
