when and if you try to correlate gun control laws and ups/down in crime.. the usual issue is that they do not incorporate a long enough time in their series. It takes time for laws to filter into society's actions. The second issue is that income levels matter.. a lot. Lower income levels are not as well versed in the law and so are largely ignorant of it until multiple arrests have been made.

 

But no one is correlating gun control laws to ups/down in crime.  I am saying that maybe increased gun ownership does not necessarily equal an increase in crime as the old talking point goes.

Crime data is one that demands some context and life experience to really draw the meaning out of.

Most crime data is very consistent year after year.
The biggest changes occurred when SorosObamaHolder decided to lump Hispanics in with Whites in order to make White crime stats look worse and to make *** crime stats look less horrible.

gun ownership and crime data do correlate in most places.. negative correlation in most cases. The devil is in the details. It depends on what other variables you add or leave out.

What "old talking point"?

The concern is over the toll firearms take and the evidence is unambiguously in their favor.

Hmm..trying to not be too snarky but I already stated that. "Negative corrleation" means that when gun ownership goes up, the violent crime (when measured at one year intervals) goes down. However, any study worth doing would put more variables into the story such as income, historical crime data, unemployment, etc.

As I said above it is not necessarily the guns. 

Sun Valley, NV.. very white, relatively high gun ownership rate, and yet the majority of drug offenses, property crime, and violent crime in the northern half of the state can be attributed to this one area. What am I leaving out? Oh wait... it is easily the poorest area in the northern half of the state. On a per capita basis.. this one area in Reno (14,000 person trailer park) beats out Las Vegas.

as an idaho native.. I can tell you why it is relatively low. Very spread out population and not a huge disparity in income in most places. Now, that is going to change as my hometown, Boise, is growing so rapidly.
