forgot to add Tyrod Taylor, Desmond Ridder (ATL), Justin Fields (CHI), and Bryce Young (CAR).
Limbaugh's comment was that Donovan McNabb was not all that great but was getting attention because he was black. 13 NFL seasons, 1 super bowl appearance, 7 playoff appearances, 98-62 record as a starter. He is just so average and is only starting because he is black.. according to limbaugh.

He should have been. He made a comment that was not backed by fact and had ESPN retained him, it would have hurt their ratings. His play at Syracuse is what got him drafted high. oh well... I was watching that show when Limbaugh said it. If I was ESPN.. I would have fired him immediately as well. He was going to hurt their ratings and their bottom line. And at last check.. they are trying to earn profits.

Sports is mostly a meritocracy. The only true exception is when they draft a player really high or have tons of money tied up in them. In those cases, they hold on to them longer than they should. Zack Wilson is an example of the former. Deshaun Watson is an example of the latter.

How in the **** can you blithely claim a controversy is going to do that, as if you got it from stone tablets? In a world addicted to controversy, that comment might have upped ratings. Limbaugh was at his zenith at that time - he probably brought 20 million fans to the table. If any sizeable number tuned in, their ratings would have soared.
They got rid of limbaugh faster than bud light got rid of that thing on the beer can. We never found out.

had they kept him, a significant portion of their core viewership was going to stop watching that show, NFL Primetime, and went over to CBS or NBC. Actually, the ratings for that show did not increase during Limbaugh's time. They stayed about the same. This tells me that the core viewers simply tolerated him. He offered no actual football insights. I watched that show with him on it and was always amazed that they had him on it.
