Ever since I have recently gotten into trading, I understand how the market is rigged. It has little to do with the actual market. They are 'public' companies, but the public doesn't really have a lot of say into it. It's not rigged that way.

Crypto is just as rigged, but at least the big guys rigging it will tell us which way they are rigging it. If you know the right people.

Its a combination of a number of things.  Very basically, I periodically look at what I have.  I re-evaluate whether the companies and mutual funds I own still serve a particular purpose, whether it still makes sense to own them.

I am constantly researching different companies and mutual funds.  I develop lists of positions I want to re-balance or liquidate to raise funds for a different investment. I also keep lists of companies and/or mutual funds I want to own - - - given the price and fundamentals are right.  If I find an "hole" that I want to fill with a particular investment (there has to be a good reason for this), then I work on liquidating or accumulating funds to pay for the position.  I try to time that with buying the targeted position when its "on sale".  Sometimes this is not possible; other times its a good use of a margin account to bridge the liquidation and acquisition.

Unless something goes awry, I typically hold my positions, long for over a year.  My investing approach has become more like Warren Buffett and less like Jesse Livermore over the years.

You're welcome for Livermore.

But the point remains.

Rebalancing makes sense, but every time you believe you know something better than the market, you are "actively managing"...in the realm of publicly traded equities, selection has fared as described.

A recent paper may turn a lot of investing assumptions on their ear.

You’re Better Off Going All In on Stocks Than Bonds, New Research Finds

Though I know it will drive many insane, I will confess to having been involved in developing the marketing of just such a solution for a while...

So you do equity deals/below market value private deals to take control of (mainly private) firms, replace their C suite with those aligned with your “vision,” and then collect the monies?

Because that’s what the Oracle actually does.

“Buy and hold” stocks is just what he tells the peons because

1) they don’t have enough monies
2) they would probably suck at what he does even if they had $100M in play monies

@Z09

As a registered professional I can be severely sanctioned for posting anything suggestive of investment advice or promotion, even anonymously, on an internet forum.

As a general rule, I don't pay much attention to the noise....I stick close to the data.

There won’t be a magnificent crash early next year. Small pullback then 5000 SPX.

how "recently"?
They are 'public' companies, but the public doesn't really have a lot of say into it.
"public" refers to the markets where they are traded....the equity of "publicly traded" companies is available to the broad population

"Privately" traded equity is not.
Crypto is just as rigged
No..its just entirely speculative, thus ripe for mania and fraud.

You are an idiot, you shouldn't be burning you wife's and uncle's monies joining The Stupid Money.

It's not speculative ****.

I would give  you a clear example, but you don't read past 4 or 5 words, so it would be pointless.

And the mean and variance of the asset class is completely irrelevant to my post. You are trying to sound smart again. It never works.

Challenge.

If you have no mean or variance, you're speculating.

I can think of a billion different facts that are relevant to investing. That doesn't mean all billion are relevant to a particular claim.
