I’ve been thinking…

If you were the head of a MCWS family (in the past it was the man…these days it could go “either way”), what line of employment would you tell your kids to get into?

I would perchance suggest being a nurse - yes, you have to wipe Boomers’ asses and whatnot…but apparently the demand is high enough even mediocre graduates can find jobs very quickly

To draw a comparison, pretty much every white collar position requires 3+ rounds of 1 hr+ (each) interviews with the most insipid HR tyrants and inane questions by management to grill every little supposed weakness on your resume. 

And keep in mind these “grill your *** sessions” are usually done by sub-125 trash, which means you have to stow your dignity for at least a while. 

(Unless you are also sub-125 in which case it doesn’t matter)

OTOH I have heard of hospitals and AC centers + agencies hiring nurses after 1 round of a 20 min interview…because there is actually a legitimate demand / supply imbalance in favor of nurses.

Anyhow, if you’re dead set on your KIDS getting a soul crushing job, you might as well persuade them to get one that doesn’t require 10+ months of searching in the 2020s+ labor market

I hear job hopping every 3 yrs is the norm now but even that has its limits…

Seeing how ALL you ASSHOLES want to do is have TOP DOWN CONTROL over the economy rather than a free market enterprise system where you work to make it work or you don't and fail. The END of the government dictating winners and losers MUST BE STOPPED and eliminating and exterminating LWNJ's is the quickest and best solution for ALL of it.

my neighbors' granddaughter is a Spring 2023 RN grad...$120 k + $10k signing bonus right out of the chute... basically still wet behind the ears...
 
 

If I am solely interested in job security and income then they should enter the health care field as an RN or MD. Next best alternative would be something where they learn programming and coding. Still lots of demand for folks that can construct/manage a complex database and integrate it with a website or a payment system. Plenty of remote jobs as well as self employment possibilities if you really know Python, R, HTML, or C++.

I would tell them robotics, repair or programming, something in the AI field, etc etc etc.

My brother is a master plumber 🪠 he does commercial plumbing 

lately, been recruiting for a new person and as of yet, not many applicants. Four to be exact. Of those 4, they seem to have a decent background in databases/programming but nothing else. They are one trick ponies. All four are below age 25 which is ok. However, when they are asked to provide insightful economic analysis about industries that they have never worked at... going to be pretty hollow stuff. Before coming to this job, I had experience in restaurant, retail, food manufacturing, call centers, farming, and warehousing. While no expert on any one of those.. I can give a real world perspective not just numbers.

Besides gubmint worker and a few niche positions in software/engineering, it doesn’t seem that Gucci for other roles. 

Most finance roles do not pay well 

Your typical Zoomer / Gen Alpha isn’t going to want to crawl around tight spaces (HVAC)

Many “creative” types getting automated/outsourced 

A suitable alternative to nursing is psychiatry, since a large % of Americans willingly subject themselves to Pharma meds that mess up their head in exchange for relief from all sorts of neurological disorders

If this were 2011-2017 I would argue that software is #1 or #2 on the list. It is still a “decent field” but the low hanging fruit has been plucked and with less funny money pouring into dubious startups, it’s not in the top 3 anymore.

What job role?

It is not the fault of these Zoomers.

What you describe is a responsibility traditionally performed by 2-3 people, now condensed to 1 person. Almost all businesses today run on skeleton crews to maximize net profit, which would explain why it’s not uncommon to wait a very long time for customer service in many restaurants / retail outlets. 

And if an engineer who did the coding / specs happens to pick up and leave, the next guy has to spend weeks to figure out what’s going on because the vast majority of businesses don’t have job training anymore. It’s been outsourced to universities that do not teach “job skills” but rather theory.

The career field for MCWS that looks real good to me are the Physical Therapists. 
It's a career that requires just enough pre med  course work to weed out the riff raff and the earning potential   should provide enough incentive to encourage the practitioners to keep themselves in good enough shape to stay on top of their game as practitioners and to lead long and healthy lives
