The biggest hurdle for young people to negotiate is housing.
Find friends or relatives living on acreage who would be willing to allow a young "tenant" or two to co-exist on the property in exchange for work or cash.
With the right attitude it is possible for the young tenant / tenant couple to save money for the future while becoming a valuable asset to the property owners who are gracious enough to give them a chance at getting a head start in life.
Opportunities like this still exist in White Supremacist Ruled Rural America......

TWO homes. A condo/apartment style house in the city and a "dacha"
house in the country. Dacha... A place to escape the city
for the weekend or vacation. A place to have a garden
and enjoy family. Granted these condos and dachas
are small by US standards.
A typical tiny Dacha with maybe a half acre of land,
and the Dacha may only be 800sf.
Make no mistake, most Dachas are not fancy, but
they are CHEAP by Russian culture design.

Some of my best childhood memories [1960s America] come from the cottage in the Sierra Nevada Mountains that my Dad inherited from his parents.

There are Mediterranean climate pockets in South America that I will consider.
IMO the best places to live in America today if you want a balance between affordability and not being in the middle of nowhere are medium COL areas like Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Raleigh, parts of Tennessee, etc.
Of course you have to choose your area carefully for obvious reasons

parents should tell their children the most important things are their health and reputation. i like your thought of trade school. let the child choose what it likes. it will excel in it. learn math and language as it learns the trade. enjoy earning a way thru life. some would have a reason to go to college. /// as far as debt college. this is changing. at home online college. states must provide free at home internet college. once the student know's it can pass a subject, schedule a test at a state college. no debt for the student. college building learning is on its way out. sitting in a big class room is out, vs, sitting in your chair, at home, in front of your computer is in.

To draw a comparison, pretty much every white collar position requires 3+ rounds of 1 hr+ (each) interviews with the most insipid HR tyrants and inane questions by management to grill every little supposed weakness on your resume.
And keep in mind these “grill your *** sessions” are usually done by sub-125 trash, which means you have to stow your dignity for at least a while.
(Unless you are also sub-125 in which case it doesn’t matter)
OTOH I have heard of hospitals and AC centers + agencies hiring nurses after 1 round of a 20 min interview…because there is actually a legitimate demand / supply imbalance in favor of nurses.
