I had a 17 yo Golden Retriever with a paralysis of the wind pipe. Probably from a fight. Instead of having him live on with a tracheotomy I had him put down.

I had a 10 year old  Shepherd / Collie come up lame with her rear legs paralyzed. It was a cancer inside the spinal cord. She was in pain. I gave her one last dinner of steak and cheese and then let the Vet do his magic.

no regrets.
hopefully their souls moved on to the next great adventure.

Going thru this is heartbreaking. I always tell folks... GO get a puppy or a kitten!!! And so many have told me- NO! That dog cant be replaced. maybe SO-  my ol man tried that on me. I demanded one.
but as soon as that puppy came- it brought so much joy to the house.
That puppy became the joy of HIS life.
In a way. It was such a pain in the arss too.    i always sing this song. changed it a bit.
To all the DOGS I luved before. who traveled ... in and out my door. Which is what they do to us. we become the door man.

I'm sorry skans. We had a dog disappear into the woods. All the neighbors were helping. But we never did find him.
The last one. Was so sick. i was carrying him in and out to go the bathroom. We tried to save him too. He was bald by then- a skeleton of a dog. I think he was grateful of the help. but it was just time.
I had the best vet. It was a hard decision. but the vet put a cute attitude on it. He said Cyndi- Stan the man has some serious issues. he made light of it. He knew i was upset.
It was a friend who woke me up. Cyndi- Stanley IS very ill. I was in denial.

Dogs seem to go 100 miles an hour until about their last year.  Then they get old very quickly and very chronically. I suppose if they were in the wild, they would die quicker.   When they have people to take care of them, they live beyond their natural lifetimes only to find out that old age really sucks.

I had one live to 17.5. He had dementia. All he did was run between 3 rooms over and over.  I'm so sorry. This must have just happened. am i right?

We had a puppy. oh about 8 weeks old.
He was an old man in luv with  **HIS ***puppy... He had a massive operation.

When he got home he stood in the hallyway- cone on his head..

In the light of the  dim hallway.. stoned on drugs- eyes glazed  over.
Where's MY puppy! looked like something out of a nightmare. 
me and dave were insulted... but he went on to live for that puppy

We're down to one dog now.  I'll stick with one dog for now.  Not looking to burden the one we have with a new puppy right now.

You'd be surprised how a puppy would make his or her life. The old man and women dogs will  tend to adopt them.  its an age thingy.

The only thing i felt guilty about. The puppy dog? was now THE adult..
so when the new puppy came?
He lived on top of all the furniture FOR AWHILE-   as the new puppy bit him- body slammed him.

The 2 Goldens I've had both made it to age 17 with just a gradual downhill slope at the last couple years of life.
They are so expensive....you can get basically the same dog with a Labrador Retriever

I had a girlfriend who had 2. died at 7.. both.

I had labs too. One ate 3 couches - a truck seat- 400 bucks and entire mans work boot. Cute sole- but i had enough.
She was brindle- lab-golden. Cracking Rosie

Our dog doesn't seem to like puppies but tolerates older dogs just fine. Probably because the other dog was always older and she learned how to get along with the older dog.  So, I'm just thankrful for the one we still have and she seems to be quite happy.  

Also, because the one that died had dementia, she was always picking fights with the other dog. This was completely uncharacteristic behavior, but the dementia was pretty advanced and I don't think she any longer recognized the other dog. Sometimes, I don't think she recognized us either.

A neighbor's Golden chewed up a couple garden houses and the corners of a wooden porch of mine. I might have finally used a BB Gun to correct that behavior.?

As much as I hate to admit it, I likely would have done the exact same thing in your shoes.

I just landed  a new BF to impress!
back in my younger days.
I go in the house- I see one 20$ on the floor by the frig.... That don't look right.?
I thought he would accuse me of stealing.
New bf! The dog ate it in the morning.. **** it out by 3 in the afternoon.

How many of you have put your dog "to sleep"?  I've got one question for those who have:  Did you kill your dog because you couldn't stand seeing it suffer, or did the dog ask you to put it out of its misery?

We put our old pit/boxer mix down this past Summer at the age of 15. She had been having seizures and could no longer walk for about a week prior. The vet also believes she has started bleeding in her stomach for some reason too so, it was time. Our vet is great and took her down slowly and peacefully. It wasn't just a shot and lights out.

She had a final meal of smoked brisket and mashed potatoes and had a Reese cup for dessert right there in the vets office.

When I was a kid, we had a big black lab - his name was "Muffin" (Mom named him).  Well, turns out Muffin had a real thing for ladies under garments. He'd wonder over to the neighbor's house and steal bras and panties and bring them back over to a spot in our garage.  Muffin had quite a collection.  Some neighbors had see him casually walking down the street with a bra or panties dangling from his snout.  This was when everyone let their dogs just roam around knowing they'd eventually come back.

One day the neighbor-lady grabbed him by his collar walked him over to our house and gave my Mom an earful about how our pervert-dog has been stealing her underwear.  I don't know whatever happened to Muffin, but he was gone in a couple of days.  Mom and dad never spoke of that again.
