These "manipulations" of public sentiment, back room escapades, alliances (political and financial), etc. are tied to power, money, control.

High stakes indeed. Why would illegalities not be involved?

Braying "trust the government!" in the face of this stuff is detrimental to us all.

Pushing to see investigations through to their end makes way more sense to me.
