It's not really music but it's definitely an art form.

I don't mind that. It's when their car is falling apart because of the bass that I worry

MTV was originally New Wave, and Hair Metal bands.... Some of the Vids were entertaining, some were ridiculous..

MUsic Vids were a double-edged sword.....
On the one hand they gave a band or a song huge exposure ---- but at the same time dated the music, especially when it came to the look....
A good example of this is the 80s hair metal bands.... They didn't go extinct because the music was bad ---- they got put out of a gig because people got tired of men dressing like Transvestites.... They were replaced by a flannel shirt and a 3-day beard...

By ***, for ***. Really stupid ones. Not black people, ***. Big difference.

Black people have given the great talent gifts of gospel, blues, R&B, Motown, soul, jazz. Then they shoot themselves in the face with rap & hip-hop and become just ***.
           Agreed......

I remember back in the 70s hunkering down in the basement with my Ramones records, a bag of Hash, and a bottle of Jack Daniels until the dark  cloud of Disco passed overhead... Never did I believe there would be a worse chapter written in the annals of American Music ----- Rap shot that notion to hell....

It really doesn't seem to have any musical qualities... It glorifies the Ghetto thug lifestyle and only holds an audience of verty low-grade ****** and Wiggers suffering from a Pigmentation identity crisis...

And everywhere the Rap Show goes, trouble comes along for the ride.....
A brother of mine used to run some pretty cool Rock venues in the area..... He got talked into allowing a local Rapper perform one night...

He said it was an experience like no other... The Negro Battle-Apes were brawling & rampaging before the show even started, especially their women... There was clumps of hair weaves all over the **** floor he said... Doormen were assaulted for not allowing underage Gangstas into the club... A female bartender was slapped by Koko the Gorilla.. Parking lot full of cop cars.. Front door shattered, bathrooms destroyed He shut it down after only an hour... He sent me a pic of the pile of hair weaves swept on the dance floor -- should have saved it..

Terrible story!

Very much reminds me of a very popular small-mid sized rock venue in a nearby city that got shut down in the mid 90’s after a hip-hop *** show (first and last time such a **** thug outfit ever was there) brought their homies with them and of course attracted the worst of the worst in fans….multiple shootings inside and out of the club put the kibash on the whole *** ape  tromp. Place was forced to shut down after decades of fun as normal white people attended, where even a single fight outside between 2 dudes was a very rare occurrence. When I heard the **** *** were coming the next week I made sure not to be there. Never went back because the club was shut down.

*** = dirt. **** them

Yeah, perhaps there was a interesting vid here and there, but as a whole, sucked.

Part of what made it so awful was people that couldn't make good music needed video to "help" the song.
Lewis Black made it quite clear when he voiced my opinion in a comedy set.
To paraphrase:
"When you listen to music you imagine something, a scene, a feeling.
If the image you see on MTV matches the one in your head, kill yourself."
Please seat yourself.

I like the very things you hate.

Music is simply an outlet for one's emotions. Emotions that are created by the environment. For someone growing up poor and black in Queens, NY, you honestly expect them to talk about something other than what they observe on a daily basis? Sure, you may not like it and that's fine. However, to say that it glorifies it is unrealistic They are simply channeling what they see, hear, and live. This is why I do not like rap. I do not identify with it. I grew up poor but in a trailer park in Idaho, the son of a cowboy/vietnam vet and a housekeeper.. pretty conservative.
