Former Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews told the committee the tweet, “was essentially him giving the green light to these people, telling them that what they were doing at the steps of the Capitol and entering the Capitol was okay, that they were justified in their anger.”Minutes after the president’s tweet about Pence, the committee’s report states, “the crowds both inside and outside of the Capitol building violently surged forward” and broke through a security line held by the Metropolitan Police Department’s civil disturbance unit.As the violence at the Capitol escalated, the report notes, Meadows’ phone was flooded with messages from supporters urging the president to intervene. For example, at 2:32 p.m., Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham wrote to Meadows, “Hey Mark, The president needs to tell people in the Capitol to go home.”And at 2:35 p.m., former acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney wrote, “Mark: he needs to stop this, now.”As Trump watched Fox News images of “the chaos and attack, with tear gas filling the air in the Capitol Rotunda,” he issued a tweet at 2:38 p.m., stating: “Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!”But many in Trump’s circle believed that wasn’t enough.For example, at 2:53 p.m., Donald Trump Jr. texted to Meadows, “He’s got to condem [sic] this ****. Asap. All any of this says is that Trump didn't like Pence's actions. So? Trump made it clear in his tweets that he wanted peace.

in the middle of the insurrection he said pence was not going to do what he wanted? why did he say it then? it was not to promote peace.

I don’t for a minute think that tRump really thought that the election would be overturned 

he was basking in the thought of people chanting his name

he is too **** stupid to have a plan

he has an out

i agree, he said peacefully in his speech to cover his *** when he got them all riled up and he himself would have an out. about the violence. the tweet about pence was an attack on pence because pence would not overturn the election. the peaceful tweet was also to cover his *** and he didn't tweet that until an hour later.

kevin mccarthy knows the truth but he sold out for trump's endorsement. and look at where it  got him. if mccarthy had stuck to the truth there would not be the mess there is today.

Former President Trump called on House Republicans to unite behind House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) for the Speakership, announcing early Wednesday that he is standing by McCarthy despite opposition from some hard-line members of the party.

Trump said in a Truth Social post that “some really good conversations” were held Tuesday night, and all House Republicans should vote for McCarthy, “close the deal” and “take the victory.”

“REPUBLICANS, DO NOT TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT. IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE, YOU DESERVE IT. Kevin McCarthy will do a good job, and maybe even a GREAT JOB – JUST WATCH!” he said.

Trump’s announcement comes after McCarthy said Tuesday night that the former president had reiterated his support for him. Trump declined to say whether he would still support McCarthy earlier Tuesday in an interview with NBC News.

McCarthy previously stood by the former president, pledging his support after multiple criminal indictments and even visiting him in Florida to console the former president after a 2020 election loss.

He later told former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), a harsh Trump critic, that he was drawn to Florida out of concern for Trump because he was told “Trump’s not eating,” Cheney said in her new book.

Trump did not offer support for McCarthy when he was ousted from the Speakership earlier this fall.

Trump ended up explicitly endorsing Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) for the job, though he could not gather enough votes to be named Speaker.

McCarthy brushed off the slight at the time.

Because he didn't do what he wanted...and that's it. You are reading into things hoping that something can be interpreted in a way that will prove Trump had bad intentions. That doesn't work. It only leads to dishonesty.

it is a fact that trump wanted pence  to stop the certification. there is no denial about that.
