Those who are away motivated avoid the possibility of unpleasantness. They are slow to try new things, meet new people - especially "different" people. They are conservative in their actions, even if not in their politics. The other 10% are the peace makers. They are the kind who want to go meet the new people, see how they do things. The 10% are willing to risk unpleasantness for the prospect of new adventures.
So both kinds exists - but the kinds you are describing exist at ten times the rate as the kind that he is describing.
