Jan 13 (Reuters) - A federal judge in Florida on Friday ruled that a U.S. law that bars people from possessing firearms in post offices is unconstitutional, citing a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling from 2022 that expanded gun rights.U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle, an appointee of Republican former President Donald Trump in Tampa, reached that conclusion in dismissing part of an indictment charging a postal worker with illegally possessing a gun in a federal facility.

Mizelle said that charge violated Emmanuel Ayala's right to keep and bear arms under the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment, saying "a blanket restriction on firearms possession in post offices is incongruent with the American tradition of firearms regulation."

For historical purposes:

Mizelle said that while post offices have existed since the nation's founding, federal law did not bar guns in government buildings until 1964 and post offices until 1972. No historical practice dating back to the 1700s justified the ban, she said.

Banning firearms in a place like a post office is or any other Fed or State facility is nothing but a Government flex to exude their power over the masses.

Back when my state of VA had the displeasure of having Terry McCauliffe as gov the moron signed a bill banning the carry of firearms in all state buildings.  To include the state ABC stores.  Which are our liquor stores.  These stores are in strip malls and shopping areas.  

Oh great now we are going to have mass shootings in post offices again.

Really?? So can you show us how many MASS SHOOTINGS have happened in POST OFFICES BEFORE THE BAN IN 1972?? And then AFTER the ban in 1972. 

THEN you can prove that banning guns in Post Offices prevented "mass shootings"!!!

Since you live in the state with some of the most gun friendly laws I am guessing you only frequent establishment that ban the carry of firearms, open or concealed.

How can you live in such fear?

And what is like living in so much fear?  You are afraid of a guy who owns a semi auto sports rifle who lives 5 states away.  Now you can't go to the post office.

That's already been done.  Thus where "going postal" came from.  

But, I'm going to tell you how you CAN legally ban all firearms from federal post offices.  And, the Supreme Court can't do a damn thing about it.  And, you know what else?  I would completely endorse this type of gun ban.   Ban federal post offices.  Get rid of them.  Cancel them.  Shut them all down.  And, delete all of the federal funding that goes to support this boondoggle albatross.
