That keeps the prisons less cluttered too.

The dead heads you are "defending" get to stay in mom's basement (dodging her tears).
We get to kill the needy ones who go out **** with society.

Moderation preserved. Street cleaning enhanced. Saving tax dollars.
Everyone happy. Image
Exactly. God bless the 2nd amendment. No quarter. :D

Not even close to being the same. Murder violates the rights of others. People who do drugs/alcohol effect themselves.

Except when they decide to do other things while high.

I seem to remember reading articles about how there is still a significant criminal market for weed in states that have "legalized" it.

People get killed by drunk drivers. Do you want prohibition back?

Did I say that? I was pointing out that people who get high (and drunk) often do infringe on the rights of others.  That is why my murder analogy was relevant.  Take your approach to the extreme...do away with all laws because free people behave better.

Laws should be created to protect individual rights and the rights of others.  If we take your logic to the extreme, then that would mean we imprison everyone. I am simply saying that there examples that when humans are free to choose, they more times than not, choose responsibly. I used the gun analogy before. We are free to buy guns. We have over 110 million gun owners with over 300 millions guns. Yet, the data shows that gun deaths in America are only 0.004% a year. Obviously, they are responsible.

"People who do drugs/alcohol effect themselves."

Extremely naive statement.

(btw, you mean affect.
memory trick: Action-Affect   and   rEsult-Effect.
I need a lot of those.  ;) )

It happens. People can say racist things that affect others. Should we prohibit free speech?
People kill others with guns. Should we ban guns?

Drug and alcohol abuse is not victimless.
That's all I meant.
I replied to a single statement that I even cut and pasted.
Couldn't have been much clearer than that.

back then, adapt or become extinct each ancestor couldn't allow themselves to pretend life is but a dream state of mind. every ancestor wasn't organized to defeat any other ideology invented to persuade ancestors to give up being ancestry to serve ideas that can last for generations, not just individual lifetimes adapting as displaced.

civilization started that process.

Think about how the chain of commands got started. Priests and witch doctors trained brains to mind ideas those wishing life were more than all it ever was would be willing to do anything to prove they were loyal to those training them to obey power of suggesting life isn't self evident.

anyone not obeying gets punished until conforming or executed. What was the phrase from Braveheart? purification through pain. Then came alchemists and mathematicians playing zero sum gain.

Here is the thing. If we apply this logic, then it needs to be applied across the board. The same can be said about alcohol, but prohibition didn't work out so well.
