Colorado is suing to stop this merger. As they should. These companies are getting over on consumers. Record profits and even moar mergers! WTF???
A merger would mean people lose jobs. Not the best thing. A government run store would look out for the employees.

I think the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few people is Communism. Just like Index Funds. Capitalism is about competition and the invisible hand. Putting everything in the hands of the super elite is the same problem as the government running the show. While the government probably would mess it up even further the same principle applies.
Nothing is easier than defending the status quo.

All capitalism needs a healthy dose of socialism as a check and balance to be successful... and the same goes for socialism. First the customers will need to be X-rayed, sent through metal detectors and then present their government issued and serialized tattoos to "authenticate" not just who they are but also so that the government can monitor their spending habits and behavior. ..
This way the government can exercise "Vice Control" for the customers own good. The idea is to set limits for candy, alcohol, cigarettes, etc.
The customers place their orders from a private room outside the store, while a government employee inside the store fills the order.
The items are then presented to the customers one by one for final approval.
The customers are responsible for bagging or boxing their own stuff.
Once the transactions are complete, then armed Federal Marshals escort the customers to their cars, or else escort them on foot a safe distance from the store.
The customers should be encouraged to wear bullet proof vests and head gear on the days they have requested to go shopping.
The customers are never allowed to set foot inside of these windowless, solid concrete slab and armor plated stores that would be staffed around the clock with enough federal agents and firepower to fend off a battalion strength Chimp Mob if the need ever arises.
