You make a very good point.  Still, I am a firm believer that in every economic scenario, no matter how drastic, there are winners and losers.  Take hyper inflation riot-looting as an extreme example.  Losers - city dwellers, law abiding citizens, store owners, stock/fund investors, bond holders - heck, lots of people.  But, there are winners - Black Market dealers with access to suppliers, rural land owners, ammo hoarders, silver stackers, self-sufficient farmers (not industrial farms), groups/communities with survival skills.  

For example, if I and 3 neighbors own AND control 1000 acres, we can not only defend that land, but make money off of it in any number of ways.  Build container-shelters for wealthy people to temporarily live in, for instance.  Yeah, its going to cost them a ****-load of wealth to have a safe place where their family can have temporary shelter and eat away from chaos.

The only no-win scenario I can think of is a nuclear holocaust.

Just learn how to short currencies...I've heard this crap about "stacking gold and silver" for 30 yrs

True, if you are adept at shorting currency pairs, that's a great hedge.  That is, ASSUMING that in SHTF times, FOREX is still up and running, and willing to accept a short on your currency pair of your favorite flavor.....also assuming the internet is working........that Russia hasn't nuked our communication satellites.......and that Euros and Dollars still exist.

Surprisingly, only 5% of Americans make it into that blue section of $1 million in assets.

Capitalism has left a bit of a sour taste in my beliefs. Too many getting left behind.
