There are quite a few States that have already signed onto a Convention (28 I believe) so that only leaves a handful to make it happen. If the Feds blatantly pull to much shady ****, the States will (should) step in collectively tell them to **** off.
Something like that would happen first... then bloodshed.

They've got three choices to get Trump out of the way...
(1) Incarceration
(2) Disqualification
(3) Assassination.
... and none of those end civilly.
If they don't get Trump out of the way, then they have to cheat in the election again... which after 2020, they may not be able to pull off without it being totally obvious... which also won't end civilly.
