My high school had huge racial fights regularly
We had a big one every year called “spring fling”
they canceled school for a week every year because of it
to let everybody cool down
it got to where we all looked forward to that week off

In Junior High there was the "smoking corner" - where all the nicotine addicts puffed away after school.
