“Tonight in the speech, the President will announce that he's directing the US military to lead an emergency mission to establish a port in the Mediterranean on the Gaza coast that can receive large ships carrying food, water medicine, and temporary shelters,” a senior administration official said Thursday.

The port will include a temporary pier, a second senior official said, which “will provide the capacity for hundreds of additional truckloads of assistance each day” to be coordinated with Israel, the United Nations, and humanitarian nongovernmental organizations. Initial aid shipments will come via Cyprus, the official said.It was not immediately clear when the port would be up and running: “This new significant capability will take a number of weeks to plan and execute. The forces that will be required to complete this mission are either already in the region or will begin to move there soon,” a second official said. As Israel’s severe restrictions on aid entering the Gaza Strip drain essential supplies, displaced Palestinians have told CNN they are struggling to feed themselves and their children.While US officials believe delivering aid via land routes is “the most efficient, cost-effective way to get assistance in,” Biden’s announcement underscores the urgency of the moment.

really really bad idea putting our troops in harm's way like that. that isn't defending America or its constitution.

How long is this going to take to complete? Can they wait for it to be built without starving?

They will spend 100 million dollars building it and when it is done they won't need it. More stupid Dem spending. But some congressman's donor will get a fat contract.

You ever watch the building of a temporary dock 30 feet wide and 200 feet long. might take 6 hours or less in calm water.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

By the time the port is built, the conflict will be over.

I guess we can always use it after the fact for pouring billions of dollar into rebuilding Gaza like we're planning to dominate Ukraine.

It's just taxpayer dollar... no biggie.

DC needs to burn and start over.
 

Well they are illegally occupying E. Syria and stealing oil.

SOMEONE has to feed, house, clothe, and care for israel's prisoners.

It's hard to believe the Palestinians don't have any ports or piers along that stretch of the Mediterranean Sea......instead of building seaside resorts, all that aid money went for building underground tunnels and bunkers underneath schools and hospitals.     

How are they not going to be in harms way? Aren’t they going to be physically on the beach in Gaza to secure the ramps and dock at the port?

Ever see those ships with opening bows, where they can anchor the ship carrying the supplies to build a floating brings to the shore. Worst case scenario they send in a dredger first to carve out the bottom of the sea. Can't your brain visualize what it would take, mine did when I first heard bout the effort. I can see how to make it work as easy as it will fail.

Costing about a minimum of 4,000 American lives to start until pulled back. Then again even if the UN gets involved, death count will go up to 10,000 deaths. no palis included.

We will now be involved in another war. The dock will require 100's of soldiers to build and then 1000's to defend and protect. **** will go bad real fast.
