Several years ago the college where I taught hired a marketing professorette, a woman from New Jersey.  She was very nice, and I enjoyed my conversations with her.

One day she confided in me about her sister, still in New Jersey, and how the family was pressuring the sister to ditch her boyfriend.  When I inquired as to the problem with the boyfriend, the professorette said, "He's a Shanty Irishman."  That was a term I'd never heard, so she explained that there were basically two types of Irishmen who made it to the New World;  "Shanty" Irish and "Lace Curtain" Irish. 

The "Lace Curtain" Irish were successful, self-sufficient, and fit in quite well with the English who were vastly predominate.  The "Shanty" Irish, on the other hand, were a poor, ignorant underclass, prone to criminal activity, slovenliness, and consumed with laziness, all the while blaming others for their plight, and raging at those who were more successful than they were.

Eventually the professorette's family prevailed, and the sister did, indeed, ditch the Shanty Irishman, much to the relief of the family.

Last night's State of the Union address was a powerful example of the Shanty Irishman, "Dementia Joe" Biden.

He screamed and lashed out at those who are more successful than he is.  Spittle was literally coming out of his mouth as he bashed "the rich."

Anger is a hallmark of the Shanty Irish.  Anger is also a strong indicator of dementia.

Joe Biden:  A poor, ignorant, demented Shanty Irishman.
