But. If the collapse comes- Who's gonna buy it from you.
They'll make it illegal to own- it will be hard to sell.
And if you want some groceries- you gonna cash in a gold coin?
maybe silver for the small stuff.
The big mistake was when the government allowed the wall between banking, insurance and investments to come down. We have slick willie to thank for that...
I did a great deal of business with organized barter companies with my companies over the years, often more than $30,000 per year in the past. Many people still don't realize that with organized trade you "bank" your trade dollars and they can be used to purchase from any other member in the group. There are both local, regional, and national trade groups, several with over 1000 member businesses involved. However to do a significant amount of volume, you really need to be able to provide a product or service that's in great demand. Services did particularly well. Dentists, attorneys, accountants, auto mechanics, vacation rentals, restaurants, plumbers, electricians, painters, movers, and many more are usually very available on barter.
Honesty isn't a black market item for purchase. A brain earns it between social mentalites never accepting life in real time.
Hi Tatanka.
"Hat Creek", is that you? (a guy who used to hang around these forums and was an avid options trader)LowIQTrash » 16 Mar 2024, 9:53 pm » wrote: ↑ As an investor, your (our) goal is to maximize returns within acceptable boundaries of risk.
Right now I see silver moving up at least 20% end of year (consolidation price movement is almost over) with a minimum gain of 10%. Calls let you triple (or more) your gains so there really is almost no downside.
As for holding physical silver, there is a much better play which is slowly building a short position with long puts (7 months or more) in tickers like SPY, IWM, and even leveraged ETFs like SOXL and SPXL.
In 2020, SPY fell about 30% while SPXL fell 75% during the 2 month crash. A short term put in SPXL would easily have returned 500% or more while a more conservative options play (let’s say 10 months out) would still see 250% or more gains in the span of 2 months.
Something like this is brewing this year and I want to snatch that opportunity with full force.
Physical Silver seems to be a very low reward, low risk play at this point so I fail to see the purpose.

I'll barter my old car for a horse. A horse would be more reliable.
Ok! I will try?

Well in Slick Willie’s defense, he was doing what the “free market” ideologues wanted.Buffalo » 17 Mar 2024, 8:50 am » wrote: ↑ The big mistake was when the government allowed the wall between banking, insurance and investments to come down. We have slick willie to thank for that...

I applaud anyone who can make consistent returns by their own hand in the markets.
I'm lazy, we pay a guy to take care of that stuff. It is much more boring but goals can be reached even when only expecting a 7% return on average.
The silver is more of an inheritance, I wouldn't buy it as an investment. You never know what an early 70 year old mom will do when receiving a sizable sum of money from her parents. Some silver broker got a hold of her and she wrote checks north of 6 figures combined. That stuff is a pain in the *** to move around. Silver at $45-50 would be kind of fun!
You know the difference between hay and straw? Straw has little nutritional value outside of bedding material and much. When dry a great kindling for a fast spreading fire.
I really hope that works out for you. Tripling a trading account in one year is a lofty goal. That gives me indigestion just thinking about it. My trading experience cost us $50k before I realized how much I suck at it. Luckily that was 25 years ago and moved into the normal long term plan of consistent investments through a 401k. That 7% average return will put us in the Holy Grail area of retirement accounts in a handful of years, or longer probably. We don't have to access those accounts till RMD age which is still a decade in the future.LowIQTrash » 17 Mar 2024, 5:34 pm » wrote: ↑ 1. I’m not HC
2. I would say the options play I have in mind (SLV and miner calls, IWM and SPXL puts) is more of a desperation play since I got hosed a while back / missed all the run ups in **** like Bitcoin and I’m pretty pissed.
I want to catch up and potentially triple my investment portfolio in 1 year.
I have nothing against physical silver, all I know is a lot of these pawn shops and PM dealers are charging rip off “fees” which makes me question if all this “everything will collapse and you’ll starve to death” is just propaganda to sell more silver and gold bars…even the reasonable sites like JM Bullion will only seem like a good deal if you buy their discounted items.
Your admitted $50K loss makes me feel a bit better…my losses were in the $15K area and that was less than 1 year ago. $50K 25 years ago is like what? $180K today?Fuelman » 18 Mar 2024, 8:07 am » wrote: ↑ I really hope that works out for you. We have a friend who has been trading the Forex for several years, it must not be going well as his wife went back to work. No amount of caution can sway the allure of fast money.
Seriously, best of luck!
Bad enough to go back to work...but not so bad as to instigate a divorce? This is slightly off topic (apologies for the triple post), but I even entertained the possibility weeks ago of taking out a "small loan." I figure if retards did just that and sat on real estate for 10+ years while collecting "cash flow" all throughout the Obama + Trump years and managed to make money hand over fist with a barely 3 digit IQ...it might work for an asset that can easily double or triple in 3-6 months.Fuelman » 18 Mar 2024, 8:07 am » wrote: ↑ I really hope that works out for you. hey educated idiot, cost of living index can work the same way coming down as it happens going up. Life never exceeds this balancing point of adapting to the moment intellectual minds never consider possible.LowIQTrash » 04 Apr 2024, 11:52 pm » wrote: ↑ Bad enough to go back to work...but not so bad as to instigate a divorce? This was one of the tickers I discussed when we had this convo ~2.5 weeks ago, it was around $5.60, now at $7.50

My only regret is not buying even more calls...(sigh)
And I have no intention of stopping at ~100% gains, I will get more. As I told "perennial question asker" R. Suave, the REAL fireworks of this show haven't even begun yet - when the stock market crashes.

10-12% interest, paid back in less than 1 year, while underlying asset doubles (100%+)...sign me up.
Or as Robert Kiyosaki (scam artist? cunning salesman? You decide!) said: "Take out debt and buy assets!"![]()
The thought of leveraging into options wouldn't give you indigestion...you would probably faint and require ER services.
