Workers at factories in Illinois have been hit by mass layoffs and closures in recent months.

 Since the start of 2024, four factories in Illinois have announced they will make more than 1,000 employees redundant due to manufacturing costs, revenue losses and the need to relocate operations. The Quaker Oats Company, Blommer Chocolate Company, Rivian and Monterey Mushrooms have all announced or enacted layoffs since January this year.

"The Quaker Oats Company announces that we are permanently closing our facility in Danville, Illinois," the company said in a statement. It cited the need for modernization and enhancements at the facility that would require it to be closed for an extended period of time. The company has opted to move production to other facilities instead of carrying out the necessary changes.

In late March, Blommer Chocolate Company notified state officials that the closure of its factory in Chicago's Fulton River District would result in 226 job losses as of May 31. A statement seen by the daily newspaper Chicago Sun-Times said the decision is down to the "location and age of the Chicago facility coupled with increasing repair and maintenance of the building and equipment has elevated operating costs and created production reliability issues."

 In February, electric car manufacturer Rivian announced 100 redundancies for workers at its assembly plant in Normal in January this year, amounting to 10 percent of its salaried workforce. The company reported a loss of $1.5 billion in the fourth quarter of last year, compared to a loss of about $1.7 billion during the same period of 2022.

 "Our business is facing a challenging macroeconomic environment - including historically high interest rates and geopolitical uncertainty - and we need to make purposeful changes now to ensure our promising future," founder and chief executive R.J. Scaringe wrote in an email to staff, according to AB7 Chicago.

What liberal idiots like him can't understand and never take into account is the huge amount that such a move would cost, even if all the costs of a new facility were equal in both Chicago and some other city, and in all likelihood they are NOT!  The additional expense of paying severance to existing workers and/or the unemployment compensation charge to the company can be astronomical depending upon how many hundreds of workers are displaced.  Next comes the rehiring and retraining of new workers at the new site and the training all must undergo, along with the number of months it will take for the new hires to become as efficient at their job as the old ones were.  In most cases, it takes getting the second location up and running simultaneously to the current one, requiring a doubling of the payroll, rent, taxes, utilities, maintenance, and either selling the old location, attempting to rent it in a dead market, or paying off an existing lease prior to moving.  Acquiring a new facility would likely also take real estate and finders fees, new lease agreements requiring legal fees, any remodeling requirements, new regulations of different fire codes, safety codes, EPA demands, and federal, state, and city inspection fees, new security expenditures, and notifications for all existing customers, and of course, then comes the actual set-up and the moving or the purchase of replacement equipment which can often take months depending on the business.

Point being, there is far more involved than simply transferring a few desks and phones from one location to another.  And for a multinational company to STILL believe that getting out of a **** city like Chicago is worthwhile, a business would have to be so disgusted with their existing location sufficient to make all that expense worthwhile, and yet we're seeing it happen with hundreds of businesses fleeing cities like Chicago, NY, LA, San Francisco, Denver, Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis, Oakland, Detroit, St. Louis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark, and virtually every other Democrat-run slum!

And brainless libs like him refuse to acknowledge it and continue along the same path of allowing high crime, record homelessness, raising taxes, a huge welfare population, and now millions of illegals making every one of those problems in those cities far more severe, while STILL supporting and voting for the same liberal politicians causing it.

So why should we have even a shred of sympathy for the cities continually getting the same government they voted for?

And pil companies were going bankrupt at a record pace. And going out of business in record amounts under Trump.
