I have never had a flat tire, yet I always carry a spare.
I also  carry emergency first aid supplies [in my cars] that came in handy once when I found an injured  bicyclist laying in a gutter.
Same idea. some of us like to be capable of helping and some like you pretend that nothing seriously bad could ever happen on your watch,
