“We will make the unredacted transcripts available to you for review in camera, provided that you agree in writing to abide by the commitments made on a bipartisan basis by the Select Committee — to maintain the anonymity of the four witnesses consistent with the conditions under which the witnesses agreed to appear before the Select Committee, and to prevent the disclosure of ‘operational details and private information,’” Sauber wrote in a two-page letter to Loudermilk, which was obtained by POLITICO...ConsRule » 29 May 2024, 12:49 pm » wrote: ↑ I read the story in the only link you posted. It does not answer (or even address) my question. Where does the Executive Branch get the authority to restrict members of the Legislative Branch from viewing...without conditions...unredacted transcripts of proceedings conducted by the Legislative Branch? According to the US Constitution, the Legislative Branch is equal to the Executive Branch and doesn't take orders from them.
I wonder how fast the Executive Branch would change their position on the matter is the House refused to pass any legislation containing funding for the Executive Branch until they get full access to the unredacted transcripts?

The Jan. 6 select committee publicly released the vast majority of its evidence, but withheld a handful of transcripts of White House aides and Secret Service officials. Those were sent to the White House and Department of Homeland Security for further review and redaction under the terms of an agreement struck in order to interview witnesses in the first place.
Because said Legislative Branch restricted itself to it, by agreement with the witnesses.ConsRule » 29 May 2024, 1:08 pm » wrote: ↑ I read that. The question still remains, where does the Executive Branch get the authority to restrict members of the Legislative Branch from seeing unredacted transcripts of proceedings conducted by the Legislative Branch? And before you mention Executive Privilege, the time to exert that was BEFORE the staffers and Secret Service officials testified. Once they testified, the transcript...WITH THEIR TESTIMONY...became property of the Legislative Branch.
