CP calls it cognitive dissonance, which may be correct.  It appears to me

It wasn’t behind a paywall for me.  But, all it is gonna tell you is he at first said he would ban assault rifles then he reversed himself.

It looked like his first, to me. I mean, "Take the guns and do the due process later" doesn't sound like he spent a whole lot of time on it. Are you SURE that was not his first inclination - that it was something he had actually thought through?
