Lookdude, I am going to **** with you on this forum in a debate. But You did your time, you deserve your check. You earned it. I got hurt in the line of service and I get a sizable check each month. Not sure I earned it, I just fell out of the sky. That is all I will say.
The point being we gave the public a service for a number of years. And they compensated us for it. We are not welfare recipients.

Not in the Navy when I served. If you "marked time" you didn't advance and pay at the lower levels of both the officer and enlisted pay scales wasn't a lot of money. I certainly had guys who were one enlistment and out... but anybody who actually did their first enlistment and then agreed to reenlist were doing so because they had found a career where they could use their talents to advance and get paid for doing so.

People who "thank you for your service" are *** suckers - unless you're NOT cashing your checks.

I worked hard tripping pipe 24 hours straight one time, balanced on an oil derrick monkey-board 120 feet in the air providing our nation's oil supply - and during 16 of those hours, I had third degree acid burns on my lower calf. Not once in my life did I believe anyone owed me gratitude. I cashed my checks. Guys die every day in the north sea providing our families with the ocean's bounty - no one thanks them for their service. Cabbies provide a useful service - and they do so at far greater risk than do soldier boys.

And e're I leave off on the topic of disrespecting the military, I have one more observation to make. The last war that the Empire won was WWII. Haven't won a war since 1945. Now, maybe the first 30 years, considering there was a draft and we had won a war in actual living memory, people who joined up might have had some measure of self esteem. A big part of the reason you get **** from people is you seem to be begging for compliments.
This shows up with people like you when dissenting opinions about your actual accomplishment leads you to say this same thing: "You ******. At least I served!"
The words may be slightly different but your type all get to this exact point eventually.
