No, that's not it.  You didn't even know what grades the directive pertains to OR the reasoning behind the directive.

I read the directive.  I was using hyperbole when I said 2nd grade.  I was contemplating saying that it would be a perfect reading for kindergarteners before they went down for their naps.

I did.  They have not been part of the curriculum before, however.

And just because you cannot come up with a legitimate reason/justification (excuse) for an OK teacher to read that particular passage to their fifth-grade class does not mean that one of them won't.

You have to explain why would they.  If they believe, as was taught for decades, that the country was founded by those who are of christian beliefs, why would they not use some of the Bible to get into the thought process?

I was taught that our country was founded by people seeking to escape religious oppression and persecution and wanted very much to have religion be totally separated from the workings of government.  I got a whole lot of Bible teaching every Sunday of my childhood.  I didn't get very much - and didn't NEED very much - from my public school education.

I grew up I Brooklyn and lived for a very short time in NJ.  We learned of all major religion.  Islam, Jewish, Christian, etc etc etc.

If it is done that way I have no major issue with it.
