Gay had one meaning, now it has another. There is denotation vs connotation for a bit, and then connotation becomes denotation. There are not 12 English speakers alive who hear the word gay and think, "without care and in good spirits." That is what gay MEANT. It is not what gay MEANS.
Likewise, conspiracy theory denotatively is as fine a phrase as any other. Prosecutors begin most cases with a conspiracy theory, and they are unabashed. Defense attorneys quite often proffer a counter conspiracy theory, and neither do THEY suffer embarrassment for it.
But when APES use the word, it has another meaning. You know it. I know it. They know it. And I will continue to reject the word as they use it. Right after using the term, *huey showed me a pic of a goofy looking fellow wearing a tinfoil hat. It is in that context that I am calling out the cowardly use of the phrase - not for its denotation.
