Voting your conscience should be the way that works, after all.
But I have lost faith that our system is even close to 50% honest anymore.
Seriously, I'd settle for even odds, a coin toss, that my vote made a damn bit of difference.
A secret ballot, yes.
A secret count?! WTF...

"Because it is popular," and "because it works" are two reasons for doing the right thing that I have never once been given by those who advise us to do the right thing.
One does the right thing - or does not do the right thing - based on one's own convictions, not on what one considers the convictions of others to be.
I hear so often people saying they would LIKE to vote third party, but they do not trust others to do it, so they have to vote for "lesser evil." The problem with that particular smart-rat construction is that "lesser" is a modifier and "evil" is a noun. It has the speaker voting - wittingly - for evil. The excuse that it is "lesser" does not change that they are voting for evil.
What a cruel task master is he who can coerce you to vote for your own chains - and get you, when you receive your chains, to call yourself a winner. I would rather RISK the greater evil than CO-CREATE the lesser evil.

Trump and Kamala both tried to murder me. RFK actually OPPOSED my murder, which I find charming in a candidate.

Scant difference, to be sure.
But it is enough, apparently, to shoot for a lesser evil rather than just toss my vote on the ground instead of inserting it in the slot.
When I reach the next stage of the grieving process, total resignation, I will vote for the outlier.
I will have come to see no difference at all. Like you.
ps
I am inching toward that rather moving away from it.
I was there in 16. It had no consequence then, either.Cedar » 19 Aug 2024, 12:03 am » wrote: ↑ Fortunately in Florida your wasted vote will have no consequence.

Neither did your vote for Trump. He'd have won without it.
