Almost two months after the unprecedented Hamas onslaught on southern Israel, which left some 1,200 people dead, the exact data on those killed in the biggest terror attack in Israeli history is still shrouded in uncertainty.
Authorities have identified a total of 274 soldiers and 859 non-soldiers killed during the brutal assault. The latter figure includes 57 Israel Police officers and 38 local security officers. It is unclear which of these individuals were on duty when killed. Removing those victims leaves a figure of 764 civilians.
Partial data by Hebrew media covering the civilians — killed by thousands of invading terrorists and by some of the thousands of rockets fired that day at Israeli cities — reveals that they include 2 infants, 12 other children under the age of 10, 36 civilians aged 10-19, and 25 elderly people over the age of 80 accounting for 75 of the 764 civilians.

The images were shared on Israel’s official Twitter account on Thursday and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also viewed some of them during a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “For any human being to see this, it’s really beyond almost anything that we can comprehend and digest,” Blinken said. “The world is seeing new evidence of depravity and the inhumanity of Hamas — depravity and inhumanity directed at babies, at small children, at young adults, at elderly people, at people with disabilities.”
Blinken described what he saw in photographs shown him by Netanyahu. “A baby — an infant — riddled with bullets. Soldiers beheaded, young people burnt alive in their cars,” he said. “Images are worth a thousand words. These images, they may be worth a million.”
Photos posted to X by the prime minister of Israel show the bodies of babies burned by Hamas.
Blinken said the images were especially difficult to view as a father. “It’s impossible for me to look at the photos of families killed – such as the mother, father, and 3 small children murdered as they sheltered in their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz – and not think of my own children,” Blinken said. “This was just one of Hamas’ countless acts of terror – in a litany of brutality and inhumanity that, yes, brings to mind the worst of ISIS. Babies slaughtered. Bodies desecrated. Young people burned alive. Women raped. Parents executed in front of their children, children in front of their parents.”
