Trump's plan to put a tariff on China and Mexico may have more cons than pros

There are always pros/cons to tariffs...well, for any issue for that matter. However, in this particular case, there appears to be more harm in it for Americans than good. Trump believes that these tariffs will reduce our trade deficit and encourage more domestic production. However, tariffs always have the danger of inducing inflation. We are still dealing with high prices. We can't afford our inflation to rise higher. The numbers of inflation were manipulated by the Biden/Harris administration. They don't accurately depict the real inflation. Tariffs increase the cost of imported goods, leading to higher prices for consumers. This can reduce purchasing power and disproportionately impact lower-income households. Even if domestic production increases, and that is a big if, it isn't going to offset the higher prices that we are already enduring.

Biden/Harris caused it. I think we should find ways to reduce inflation before we do something that has a high probability of increasing it again.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but prices will not come down much if any.

There have been several multinational companies reporting they are already working on reducing production in China.

Stop buying that cheap **** from China, it's polluting the world.

The amount of fuel a supertanker uses depends on its size and speed, but here's some related information about fuel consumption for ships:
Container ships: A container ship can use over 84,200 gallons of fuel per day, which is the equivalent of almost 6,500 car gas tanks. The amount of fuel a container ship uses is mostly a function of its size and speed. For example, an 8,000 TEU containership uses about 225 tons of fuel per day at 24 knots, but only 150 tons per day at 21 knots.

Large ships: A large ship can use up to 250 tons of fuel per day, which is equivalent to over 80,000 gallons.

Regular-sized ships: A regular-sized ship can use up to 150 tons of fuel per day.

The Emma Mærsk: This container ship uses about 16 tons of fuel per hour, or 380 tons per day.

The CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin: This ultra-large container ship carries about 4.5 million gallons of fuel oil.

Panamax ships: These ships can generally hold up to 5,000 TEUs and typically hold between 1.5 million and 2 million gallons of fuel.

Post-Panamax or New Panamax ships: These ships can carry between 2.5 million and 3.5 million gallons of fuel.

Ships use waste oil, which is the leftover material after the crude oil refining process. This fuel is the cheapest and most polluting fuel available.

This is a tough subject for many reasons
Allowing ourselves to get so deeply immersed in the RACE TO THE BOTTOM with our dependence on CCG [cheap Chink goods] will not be easy to withdraw from.
It will create a Black Market that Outlaws will continue to use to enrichen themselves.
Patriots have already been making a point out of buying US made when they can. Once the table has been leveled it wont hurt as much to make the choice to be a Patriot.
Who knows, we might see a return of things that are worth repairing instead of tossing...?

Good point. I am not saying that the tariffs can't work. I am saying that it should be timed at an appropriate moment. I don't know when Trump plans to set the tariffs in  motion, but I think doing it after we figure out how to get inflation down would be better.

Ships use diesel #6...or coal tar...

the good news tho, is joe will mandate electric ships before he sails out to sea in Jan... :die:

That would be great if we had a selection of goods that were built in America to choose from.

Why should another country have the advantage of slave or cheap labor. And the other countries charge tariffs or don't allow American goods. Trump is smart. Make the playing field fair.

Same argument liberals make for slavery.
They used to use black slaves to pick their cotton, now it's brown slaves to pick their vegetables.
The Democrat Party has always loved their slaves.

Yep
Doing automotive restorations gobbles up a lot of grinding wheels and sandpaper.
At Harbor Freight 20 years ago a 10 pack of Chinese grinding wheels cost $5. I think the going rate for "name brands" made elsewhere  was 2 to 4 times that
Same goes for paint spray guns..instead of paying $100s for a DeVilbiss you could buy a decent gun  at HF for as low as $15....and a cheap $100 HF air compressor has enough ooomph to keep up with a HVLP gun.
