General Dwight D. Eisenhower a young "Draftee" of WORLD WAR ONE later was "Assigned" Run a Us Army "Convoy" Coast 2 Coast took like 2 Months our Road System a Century ago..

Later on WW2 Eishenhower now a "General" on the "Western Front" observed the Germany "Auto-Bahn" Highway System of un-obstructed "Fast Moving Traffic"..

1956 as "President" of USA now Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Interstate Highway Act.

People think Los Angelos California was the "Original" Freeway City and they may well be..

But Houston Texas built a City along "Freeways" and the traffic just as bad too

The population was Half what it is today back then..

Even Milwaukee Wisconsin the "Original Freewways" built 6 lanes designed for roughly "Half" the Volume they handle today so ya got Traffic Jams thru a "Mid Size Metro like Chicago too

Prior to 1980 the "Staggers Act" both Railroads & Trucking were heavily "Federally Regulated..

Opening up "Trucking" & Bankruptcy & Big Consolidation of Railroads 1980s thu 2000s

J/B Hunt not only owned Trucking he had Railroad assets infact was insturmental in "Container Freight" as we know it today because he owned very well into "Both" sides
 
 
 

Nowadays almost 50 years later the "Smaller" Companies been bought out by the "Giant Corporate"

The afew "Independant" or "Ma & Pa" still going cannot keep up with "Inflation" & never-ending "Regulations"

Let me tell ya something a guy like myself I make a "Buisness" Relationship with a Small "Ma-& -Pa" work terms as a "Deal".

These Big "Corporate" ones come in either "Buy Out" or run at a "Loss" for awhile "Cheaper Prices" 2 drive em outta buisness

After the "Bankruptcy" Court Ruling the "Conglomerates" buy the pproperty & shares "Fire-$ale" prices $ell them off 3/4 times over to "Mega-Corporations"

The Big Mega Corporations "Lobby" Wash D/C pass Tougher Regulations because they got the Capital in Bank & The SIZE 2 "Comply" with every New Rule.

Smaller Buisness $ells out good offer or goes "Bankrupt"

Trucks were also cool.

I $pent half my freaking life driving a Big Rig too..

Today I am "Side-Lined" because of Health Issues just working Part-Time Local ..

Nonetheless those Big Diesel Fuel Burning Trucks "Bring" roughly everything ya need to "Survive" as well too from far away too

The Railroads still carry the vast majority of "Bulk" Commoddities like Coal, Grain, & Ore.

Also Chemicals in Tankers..

 

Here give ya a working example myself..

A decade ago driving truck DeLongs Grain Elevators..

Delong Company is a International Player in Global Grain Markets..

In Midwest the Farmer sells his Harvest to Delong he can take flat "Ca$h upfront that days prices print him a check & paid on the spot right there..

Theres also "Futures" & Levereging some "Producers" took half in Ca$H bought "Futures" the Rest ..

We also made "Storage & Drying" Fees..

A bigger operation usually had its own Grain Bins and storage.

Smaller Guys did not have bins and as soon as harvest $old 2 Elevarors the going price that day

Anyways most Corn was sold up in Wisconsin to Valero Energies Ethanol Plant in Jefferson or Port Of Milwaukee be loaded on Great Lakes Barges..

The Vast Majority of Soybeans were for "Export" 2 Asia and Chicago Railyards be loaded into Containers then by Trains to the West Coast and on ships to Asia

All of our Wheat was $old to "ADM" Milling Flour Plants
 

Around Deer Season we also had Mini-van & Pick-Up truck "Customers" too..

Theyd bring garbage cans wanted corn 4 "Bait"..

Was not really our line of buisness just a "Hassle"..

But we wanted have a good "Local" Opinion so wed let the Deer Hunters buy even if no real $$$ be made waste of time

There was also an Old "Grandma" Lady out in Frankville hadda flock of Ducks & Geese on her property..

She was a "Millionarie" too Rumor has it but she wanted "Feed" see those Ducks and Geese..

Again not a $$$ keep ya in buisness deal..

A "Grain Elevator" just does that "Local People'
 

I wanna ask all these supposedly "Green People" can they afford an 80 grand "Tesla" plus charging it..

Do they ride the City Bus thru the Crack Ghetto.

Yup, they were originally built so the gov could move troops and equipment faster and easier. In Other Words, national defense.
