You just scan the bar code of any product you are thinking of buying, and YUKA will tell you every poison in that product. 

You don't just use the "score" of the product. For example, no corn chip or potato chip will have a great score, since they're loaded with fat and salt. But you knew that before you scanned it. What you are wanting to know is whether the chips have deadly additives - many do. If it says Frito, it does. 

So you get a smidge more granular by pushing a button and looking at the additive count, and then you get more granular still by looking at the individual additives and their risk factors. 

It sounds daunting, but it takes only seconds to confirm a good product, and a few seconds more to find out whether the additives are literally carcinogenic.

I just came up with a great moral to this thread title.

I love to fry eggs in it. You can get duck butter cheaper by simply buying a duck from a farmer, and rendering the fat from its skin. You'll get over a cup of fat that way. And you still get a nice roasted duck.

That would be stupid. Big Ag has litigated the right to obscure the labels. You will never find a label with "MSG" on it - but you WILL find products with MSG in them. The labels are designed to obscure what is in the product - not elucidate it. \\

Moreover, unless you are a chemist, reading the label will not hip you to how bad the poison is. How good or bad are mono- and diglycerides of fat? Do you know? How about calcium phosphates? Good thing or bad thing? 

If they say, "natural flavors," what value does that information provide? And why would you turn up your nose at an organization that has done the work to find out what factual meaning that phrase actually hides?

The regulatory agencies allow big ag to shift terminology nonstop, using the label to OBFUSCATE, rather than inform.
