if your income is over the limit you don't get any food stamps and the limit is low, 1500 dollars a month or so  which barely covers rent and utilities

Are you trying to claim that a government-sponsored website is giving you accurate information about STARVING AMERICANS when they do nothing but provide a nebulous definition of a made-up condition they call "food insecurity" has ANY correlation to anyone who is ACTUALLY starving in this country?

You obviously have no first-hand experience with the recipients of food stamps!
Ask any supermarket cashier and you'll learn far more than any worthless government website regarding the issue.

I spent 16 years as a cashier and assistant manager of a large supermarket when I was a kid, and learned more about the abuse of the program than you could ever imagine.  I watched as so many minority shoppers come to check out with a cart full of food that most of those paying cash could never afford.  Rib roasts, steaks, shrimp and lobster, pounds of bacon, snacks, candy, chips, soda, expensive cheeses, deli meats, and more.  And inevitably, I'll have to argue with a customer who insists they could also buy their pet food, toilet paper, cigarettes, dishwasher and laundry soaps, hosiery, cosmetics, etc., all ineligible to buy with food stamps, and the cheaters always fail to identify themselves to the cashier as a food stamp customer as is required, so they can hopefully bag the ineligible items before the cashier becomes aware of it.  I vividly remember getting into an argument with a woman who insisted that her gallon of bleach was eligible because she planned to drink it.  That's the stupid game that's played with the tens of billions we spend to give them food stamps.

Now as far as the limits go, are you going to try to tell me that poor people are starving when a family of 4 with 2 adults and 2 children get a whopping $680 PER MONTH in food stamps?  Or a two adult household that gets $374 per month?  My wife and I probably spend less than half of that every month, and that's including the purchase of things that would be ineligible to buy with food stamps.

Part of what makes liberals like you so gullible is the fact that you rarely bother to learn of the abuses of such government largess, and you much prefer to think that such an avoidance shows your great humanity, rather than your deep ignorance!

OF COURSE there's a limit on your income that qualifies you, but the point is those expenses YOU indicated ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THAT LIMIT!  
It DOES NOT count things like rent, utilities, medicine, taxes, tax refunds, Sec. 8 housing supplements, Social Security payment, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) programs against that total, which you clearly did not know.

So how high would YOUR income be if YOU didn't count your rent or mortgage payment, your taxes, your medicine, your Social Security income, or your utilities?
I'd guess you yourself might even qualify for food stamps, or if not, I'll bet you're not far from it!

And let us not forget that every kid in public school is ALSO given free breakfast, free lunch, free snacks, and plenty of other benefits that responsible parents must pay for themselves!  Do you STILL think $680 per month for a family of 4 is insufficient WHEN THE TWO CHILDREN ONLY EAT ONE MEAL AT HOME PER DAY?
