Yeah, that was great. He spoke my mind, to be frank.
I don't have to LIKE the facts, but unlike the cornjabs, I won't run from them.
The one area where he wasn't echoing my thoughts, but rather was feeding them, was in his analysis of Putin's intentions regarding his military installations. It's never occurred to me that he would give up prime real estate on the med - I'll hide and watch to see if that particular prediction proves prescient.
What I've not heard anyone speaking about is the energy angle. I'm pretty damned sure that Putin has a number of nuclear power plants under construction in Turkey, one of which is partially online already while being expanded. If memory serves, Russia owns and operates the plants within Turkey and sells the energy to the Turks at a low price.
I would think that relationship is uppermost in both men's minds as they navigate these **** up waters. Erdogan can hardly be blamed for coming after Syria, so long as American armed Kurds were controlling its eastern border. Putin can hardly be blamed for trying to hold Syria together against the onslaught of which Erdogan was a participant. So each country had its own agenda, and their agenda conflicted, but their interests also align in other areas. It's a real ****, IMO. Everything is when the battlestar is involved, but in this case you also have some serious adults in the room.
And of COURSE, there's always gonna be a kurd whose day it is in the barrel. That never changes, because the Kurds sat out the whole "let's have an ethno-state of our own" thing until after the music stopped and they were the only ones without a chair. Now the Kurds are all like, "If Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Syria all give us a fourth of THEIR chair, we'll have our own chair, and everybody will be happy and life will be fair. But the fair only happens in October, and the particular fair the Kurds want will only happen in Nevervember. So there's the barrel, and shut the **** up and get in because it's your day in the barrel again, Kurd.
Then there is the whole, what will America do for the Kurds thing, and I'm going to have to take a break because I'm laughing too hard to continue, and I feel really guilty for laughing at the Kurds because they are so pitiable - in a "that poor coyote, the roadrunner is a prick" kind of way.
