I wish you could see for a week the kind of **** a small business doing the best they can by their workers, has to deal with from regulation and from their workers on a regular basis. When you pile on top of that some dickhead trying to come in and unionize the workers of that business, the business simply can't make it.  The only good thing is that most of the time, the majority of employees know that the owners treat them quite well and are aware that a Union would force the business to close.

On another note, I know I poo-pooed on apprenticeship programs run by the Unions.  The fact is, I know that some of these programs, especially for electricians, are darn good.  But, I have also seen what a Union did to one of their electricians who was union, went through one of these apprenticeship programs and then tried to force him to comply with union wages driving him out of business.  The union had no sympathy or understanding for this friend of mine who actually was pro-union - didn't care, just drove his *** right into the ground.  The guy never recovered, lost his business and everything he put into it.  He was an emotional wreck and it took him a couple of years to even find employment after that.

I grew up watching how a union completely wrecked the industry my father was in back in the '60's.  One by one, the businesses that were forced to allow the union into their company refused to take the threats and demands from the union any longer.  They shut the doors and abandoned the factories, moving the companies down south where unions were frowned upon, putting hundreds of workers out of a job overnight.  I know of at least one that never let their intention to move be known, and when their 150 workers showed up on Monday morning, the gate was chained and locked closed and a sign posted that the company had moved to So. Carolina and had terminated all their employees.

With that history in mind, I faced a similar problem in my own business, when a union rep came to my office demanding that I let him recruit my workers and I refused.  I told him to get out, and anything he had to say to my employees he could do after they left the job and were off my property, as I was already giving my employees all the benefits, wages, sick and vacation days that the union in other factories provided, without them needing to pay any union dues.  The union rep threatened to put a picket line around my factory, and I told him to go right ahead, as long as he did it off my property and didn't try to stop me or my workers from coming and going.  With that he left, and I never heard from a union again.

In my opinion, I think unions had a place and were needed in this country about a century ago.  I've read The Jungle and The Communist Manifesto and understood the need for them at that time.  Now, however, they no longer serve a useful purpose and have become nothing more than another corrupt arm of the Democrat party where almost all of those union dues are funneled to, and that's why fewer and fewer employers allow them.

There are now 27 states with "right to work" laws that give workers the option to join the union or not, and the Supreme Court in 2018 (with persuasion from Trump?, I don't know) voted 5-4 to strike down mandatory union fee deductions from the public sector.

Looking back on the 10 years I spent in  NON UNION  construction with no pension plan....those were 10 totally wasted years of my life.
Thank God I was eventually "organized in" to the union in 1991 when my non union employer landed a huge contract to work on Boeing property installing security systems..
My Employer benefitted from "going signatory" with the union because this gave him access to a much higher class of work to bid on.
He was now bidding the large scale jobs that the non union contractors are physically incapable of "manning up" for  at a moments notice.
Going union meant I at last had a secure future...knowing full well  I would have much more than just  SS and a 401 lump sum to live on.
I can't say I've ever heard of any  Illegal Aliens joining the skilled trades unions ...  .....but a million of them are working non union construction every day.
I don't know of any Union Construction Contractors who are there involuntarily.
They are the elite..they are in the Big League.

I've seen a dozen or so illegals every morning hanging out outside of Home Depot hoping to get work, and I admit I've used a couple on a one-day job a few times, although I never asked if they were legal residents or not.  They always worked hard and the only problem I ever had was one of them stole some pills from one of my salaried workers that he left in his knapsack.  But this was all before Biden threw open the border to the millions of illegals we have now.

Yep....what started out as a trivial amount of Illegals just 40 years ago has been deliberately allowed grow into a massive body of future votes for the Democrat Party.
They are already counted for Congressional / EC  apportionment.
