If you could wave a magic wand and artificially  increase the African Bushman population to 1 trillion [from whatever low millions count it is  at]....they still would have never invented penicillin, or angioplasty   even if you gave your social experiment another 500 years to prove your theory that [population explosions are what lead the advances that are responsible for population explosions to occur] is true.

If where you live was just as desirable as where I live it would've already seen a 4 fold increase in population over the past 35 years just like my area has. There would already be traffic jambs where you used to be able to drag race without a care in the world. 
The overpopulation  trend is here already..only the rich will be able to live anywhere besides high rise apartments where single family homes on acreage once stood. THAT is the trend and not visa versa.
Private vehicle ownership and toll free highways will be the next part of over populated Americana to be considered a Rich Person's luxury. The Peons will be herded into the slow lanes. and crappy toll free roads.

I really think you need to take a swim in Lake You, and make a decision to be happy where you are, or go where you will be happy. Urban corridors certainly have upsides. Low land use, fantastic shopping, you can ditch your car as I did in SF, and any time you need wheels just rent them. You'll spend much less that way, leaving you much more discretionary income. I don't care who you are or what you drive, you're gonna spend a minimum of 6k per annum on wheels. If you're only spending a small portion of that on occasional rentals, you have that much more to spend elsewhere.

Yeah, toll ways are a comer, and express lanes too. I paid for both in Florida and Texas. I recommend you look at some of the trade-offs you're ignoring. And if you don't find the perks to meet or exceed the downsides, muh-ooove. Your house, from the sounds of it, is worth several times what you paid for it. You could live on a river in a perfectly lovely home with acreage, and have money left over for a boat and fishing gear.

By the way, you don't have to be "rich" to use toll roads and express lanes. How you spend your money is a value statement. If you value that express lane, you'll pay. If you don't, you won't. You just have to consider that money worth spending, or you have to be content with the hurly burly of peonage. And you COULD make a game of it - count lip and eyebrow rings during your tedious, stop-and-go commutes.

I don't think so. I believe he is authentically stupid. And it's not an IQ thing - it's an emotional thing. Likely, he's a recovering addict who just didn't do the growing up that those of us without degenerate-level addictions did in those critical years between 16 and 60. 

There are lots of people who hadda get off booze after a lifetime of being degenerate drunks, because their doctors promised them a coffin if they didn't. So now, they're stuck. They have the EXPERIENCE of their years, but not the emotional stability. They have the emotional lives of wrathful teenagers. And they see the world with a big **** you attitude. They have persecution complexes, and they're angry all the time because they do not know inner peace. They don't like themselves, and consequently, they dislike all about them. Their biggest indulgence and addiction, now that they are off the booze, is wrath.

Bro, lovely places exist in almost every state. I've lived in the country and on acreage in East Texas. On the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. In Mississippi. In Arkansas. In Virginia. The whole **** country is outback, except for major cities and their suburbs - and I've lived in those, as well. Hell, Vegas was both, rolled into one. I lived there for nine years. I lived a completely suburban lifestyle - swimming pool, manicured lawn, big lot, fruit trees, pet pit bull, and wide, fast moving roads making easy commutes - all with the population, the shopping, and entertainment options of a major city. The notion that the lifestyle I currently enjoy is some rare and hard to find thing is simply not true. 

I said it before and I will say it again - I don't think your issue is geography. If it were, you wouldn't let yourself be made miserable by it. You would just move to some place more to your liking. 

I can tell you this much - and vegas (the poster) will vouch for me. Las Vegas has a couple of million people, and you can have peace and quiet, and you can have a smooth-as-silk commute. Maybe your area is just run by ***. Or maybe you live in a city that is centuries old and not built for the modern lifestyle. It sounds to me like your urban planners are just maroons.
