This subject makes me wonder if our cars need catalytic converters to run as clean as they do now. 
Without the converter the O2 sensor can still tell the CPU to either lengthen  or shorten the pulses that it sends to the fuel injectors.
The object is to maintain the optimal 14 to 1 ratio of air to gasoline..it's not dependent on the converter being there.
The converter is there to mop up minor spills of unburned fuel as a fail safe measure...but if you have ever seen what the converter's filter media looks like [it is a very fine mass of honey comb] the converter  would get clogged up pronto if we had engines that ran the least bit dirty for any length of time.
Converters are expected to last 10 years or more...which right there proves how little clean up work they are actually doing. 
A compromise solution  would be to run the exhaust  past less catalytic material and to use a O2 sensor that's mounted downstream of the converter to "tattle" on a mechanically faulty engine that is overwhelming the smaller converter's ability to handle the mess.

They'd be crazy not to with all the psycho war loons in WASH DC sky screaming at China all day,
sending weapons to Taiwan, and constantly provoking China militarily in the South China Sea.
