State leaders in Minnesota, including Gov. Tim Walz, addressed President Trump's federal funding freeze Tuesday afternoon, calling the move "unprecedented" and "illegal."
this is delicious....
Minnesota as a state pays more into the federal government than it receives, Walz said.
"Those are our dollars that he is stealing, unconstitutionally," he added. "Congress as I served, as Attorney General Ellison served, appropriates the dollars. This is so far beyond the pale to try to pull these dollars back."
Nearly two dozen Democratic attorneys general, including Ellison, are filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration to stop him from instituting the freeze. Ellison said Trump's actions usurp the power of Congress, and the administration doesn't have the power to stop funding to the state.

I'm sure they're lying as they make it sound like everything will be frozen...the ****'s panicking because he pissed away an $18-22bn surplus last session and his next biennial budget forecast has him at another $5bn deficit...stupid ****...

Many of them can look you right in the eye and recite their Miranda rights.
And I call the 22bn surplus an election year accounting gimmick.ROG62 » 9 minutes ago » wrote: ↑ democrats and tampon tim have had the trifecta in MN since 2022 pissing away $22bn state surplus with a 2026 projected $5bn shortfall for 2026-2028 budget...that's what I call"blowing it"...

Cannonpointer » 11 minutes ago » wrote: ↑ I'm not seeing anything in this language about a freeze by fiat, or a whim-based withholding of appropriated funds.
The authority to hold accountable any who violate the conditions of allocated funds and the withholding of funds with no such finding are entirely separate things.
And this is what he has no authority to do. There are fifty states. All fifty have a right to allocated funds. Withholding such funds EVEN IF FRAUD IS ALLEGED is walking on very thin ice. Withholding them on a whim is leaping headlong into even thinner ice.
Which is why Trump backed down. He knew he would lose. Because his actions were outside the scope of his authority.
Did you know that his powers are actually enumerated?
Your surrender is duly noted.Cannonpointer » 6 minutes ago » wrote: ↑ Where did I say anything about an E.O., mouth of the south?
The E.O. merely calls for audits - not for a freeze.

I could name a few.
Thanks for noting it. That was a mighty kind thing to do, as you retreated.

Like giving every school age student (yes, preschool thru 12) free breakfast and lunch regardless of household income just so Johnny and Susie won't get shamed? Oh, and my 7yo grandson goes to school in the morning for breakfast and has a choice of a doughnut, muffin or eggs...which do you think he chose at his own discretion? Or 12 weeks pd leave for both parents...should I keep going or are you getting the liberal drift?Cannonpointer » Yesterday, 7:37 pm » wrote: ↑ Returning the people's money to them is the very opposite of blowing it.
Giving it to israel is blowing it - which is what you would be more sanguine with.

Use it or lose it grant funding keeps the state always ratcheting up the amount. Second, states have more bureaucratic hurdles to clear if they want to fund something internally whereas if you get a grant.. less work and then your residents do not complain about higher taxes and so on.
