In the here and now, Russia is fighting for its sovereignty and its existential security.

Germany is sending missiles to attack deep into Russia. You've probably heard about WWII - which the Russians call the Patriotic War. They lost a lot of people in that war - hundreds, maybe even thousands. It was pretty tough on 'em. I don't know if you know this, but it was Germany that attacked them. They haven't forgotten. 

And behind all of it is the U.S. The U.S., which pulled a coup in Ukraine and planted an anti-Russian puppet government, which it encouraged to kill ethnic Russians using ACTUAL **** NAZIS to do the job. Right on Russia's border. And STILL Putin held back, tried to negotiate. For years. They made a treaty with him at Minsk, and later admitted - both the French and the German PMs - that they never intended to honor that treaty. That the treaty was only to buy time to build up their proxy while the provocations and sanctions and insults continued apace. 

In the end, with every attempt at diplomacy being given the mean girl treatment by the west, Putin did what he was required by circumstance to do. Which was precisely what the west wanted him to do - boxed him in to do. 

If we cannot deplore that because hypothetically, Russia might someday do the same, then we are embracing nihilism. I prefer not to do that. 

That's about all I have to say about that. Now, I am off to purchase a Dachshund, because I'm a cowboy, and I want to get a long little doggy.

I was referring to "draining of resources" only. The geopolitical rat's nest aside, if Russia annexes a big, new field laden with ore, why wouldn't they exploit the place?
The reasoning behind how they got there becomes moot at that point. Wrongly or rightly, forced into a bad situation, whatever. Once they're sitting on it, they won't designate it an untouchable national treasure like we stupidly do. (Then we have to raid someone else's place... a'cuz our eco wackos don't like holes.)

Yeah - and Russia has no problem cutting the US in, so that they can continue to devote their manpower to industrializing and developing new technologies at a far faster clip than we do. The Russians have a big language - a go to outer space language - an invent **** language. For clarity, think of the Innuit. They have thirty words for snow, I grant you. But no word for copper wire. Or copper. Or wire. 

People with small languages are not capable of big things - and there are only a few big languages alive today. Russian is one of them. They are a big brain people. That's who invents big languages - big brain people. 

And they are not dawdling about, squandering resources on silliness. They are directing their spending in the true national interest, not in the fake "national interests" that our politicians lie about. **** about in the middle east in no way benefits AMERICA. It benefits certain individuals - but no nation.
